6/27/2012: I have the Model 17 Woodward. The repair kit cost about $22 at Lowes and a replacement faucet costs about $25, go figure! I performed the steps outlined in this video for my leaking cap in 5-10 minutes and it resolved my leaking problem. I spent 2 hours the previous day taking everything else apart but this, duh! The bad part of this repair is that you only use about .50 worth of parts from a $22 repair kit. At least for have spare parts! Thanks for the video, much appreciated!
Yea no thanks, mine break every season. Might as well just shut off the water for the winter to those bibs. I am on my 5th repair of these woodfords. You can buy a generic bulk pack of vacuum breakers and floats for $5 on ebay. These things are junk IMO.
Apply silicone grease to the rubber gasket before placing it into the clear plastic thing. It wont fall out while you're putting it back together. I't will make it seal longer too. Take it from a plumber.
Great...I've got the type where you have to replace the entire faucet. The vaccum breaker is attached to where the water comes out. I'm thinking about just using a ton of silicone to stop the water from coming out of the holes. I've got another faucet in the backyard doing the same thing. When you turn the faucet on, it sprays a ton of water out of the holes and gets all over the place.
Okay you can get a vacuum repair kit for less than $ 3 dollar on line or $ 9 which ever you prefer. Mine did not come out unscrew very nicely. Lucky me I bought 2 kits. I used some E6000 glue on the first one that screwed in crooked
The plastic piece on mine is broken and there is no way to turn with channel locks. How do I get the broken piece out? I’m thinking of using a mini propane torch to melt the plastic and a small wire brush to clean the brass threads.
Raymond Hall I used a propane torch right in the middle to heat/melt plastic. While warm and pliable I was able to stick a thin metal pick into it and unscrew it.
I just chiseled mine out with a flathead and hammer. Wasn’t ideal, thought I was going to have to replace the whole spigot at one point. My handle was also fused onto the stem so had to replace that after penetrating oil and hammer failed.
@@johnd7201 same with mine. the replacement was ruined by thread damage during removal of old plastic. I can not find a plug to just cap it off. I am so disappointed in this design
