This tooth setter is a great investment, I bought it a few years after the mill, up to then I used a manual diy setter with two pieces of angle iron and bolts to offset the teeth in a vice, very time consuming, but worked. One thing I did to make the blade easier to slide through the setter was to mount it on a 3’ long 2x6 then installed a long bolt on each side about 6” away so the blade doesn’t bind on the edge of the setter, it will glide through it much smoother. I only do tooth setting every second sharping, and take the blade down to 1” wide as per Lenox information, they do need extra care when setting up on the mill, the tracking isn’t always the same as the blade gets narrowed, also I use less torque on the blade mine called for 35ft lbs, but I set to 30 as it gets older, most of the time they will break, especially in hard wood so I only use then in softwood, but hey if it breaks it’s had a good life span to be around 1” wide.

Thanks for the info William I will definitely use those recommendations. I was wondering if it was necessary to set it every sharpen so I am glad that you mentioned every second time because i was curious about that.

@@ChrisBrackenridge also on the first time sharping of a blade begin at the seam weld, and watch each tooth as they are not all evenly spaced and may require a little tweaking or it might miss or take to much, then after the first sharping it’s usually pretty good. Keep lots of fuses on hand as it will trip if the motor boggs down or tries to cut to much off. Only skim as little as possible and in the gullet too, stay off the back side of the teeth if not it will be to thin and break or bend on knots. Have fun I always do it’s a party in the shop for a few hours on sharping day 😂🍻

Millimeters, not centimeters. I bought this as well. I haven't used it yet. Just started sharpening blades - finally used all my blades. I am building a box for my setter do it doesn't get wrecked.

Yes, must have mis - spoke definitely millimeters, thanks Mike. Right on, I found this to be a lot easier and straight forward to get going than the sharpener was.

Have you found that it is worth it to work hundreds of teeth vs just buying a new blade for 25 bucks?

I wish I had a good answer for you, but I am very new at sharpening my own blades. I know what you mean it is time consuming and I don't know how much further ahead you would end up, trying to factor in different variables. I think for me personally I liked the idea of learning how to do it myself and that factored a lot into my decision to get the sharpener and setter.

@@ChrisBrackenridge I just watched a video from woodland on their blade sharpener. It's expensive, but it is automated so you just set it up and walk away. That seems worth it to me. I am going to order that and see how it goes before I get into setting tools, cheers
