In this video, I run through the process of using Woodland Scenics Deep Pour Water. There are many resin water products on the market but this seems to be the most common in model shops.
As the name of my channel suggests, I take most of my inspiration from the areas surrounding the River Dart, from the high points on Dartmoor to the mouth of the river at Dartmouth. I have spent many hours kayaking along the Dart so I have had the opportunity to observe it up close to try and recreate this feature in miniature. I love to try and add a water feature to my dioramas whenever possible. However, it can be a bit daunting to use the resin because if you don’t follow the directions exactly, there’s a chance you could ruin your diorama! In this video, I will show you how I created the river on my clapper bridge model.
IMPORTANT: This is a basic guide on how I use the product but you must follow the manufacturers guidance which gives further tips and recommendations. I am not sponsored or linked to Woodland Scenics.
I hope my video is of interest to anyone who enjoys making dioramas, model railways or war gaming layouts.
I hope you agree that the final photographs demonstrate how easy it is to create something that looks realistic. Why not have a go yourself?

WS should make you brand ambassador. Maybe you already are. You are by far one of the best diorama builders I know. Cheers, Any.

That's very kind of you to say. I'm not linked or sponsored by anyone - I think those companies mainly deal with the really big channels so I'm a long way behind!

@@DartsideScenics good for you, that way you are your own man. Aside from a gifted diorama builder I wanted to say that you are also a good photographer. You have the rare ability to present complex matters in a way that it makes it easy for anyone to comprehend. That’s why I like looking at your videos.

@@anyblunder6782 thank you. I just use my trusty phone camera and I’m very lucky to live in a beautiful area to use as a backdrop 😊

@@DartsideScenics well, then there is truth in the saying that it’s not the camera but the man behind the camera that makes the picture. Indeed, you live in a beautiful area. Obviously plenty of inspiration there. Cheers, Any.

Wonderful diorama and excellent tutorial. I have been somewhat confused over water products but am gravitating towards Deep Pour Water (I like Woodland Scenics products) and I was looking for some guidance. The WS video left me with some questions and your presentation (clear, straightforward and very helpful) answered them! So a big thank you from East Devon.

Your photography is brilliant. I've never tried the Deep Pour Water. Epoxy is cheaper in larger quantities, I find. Great model - well done!

I dont have a blow torch, is there any other way to remove excess bubbles without shelling out ?
@DartsideScenics
@DartsideScenics Год назад
I’ve seen isopropyl alcohol spray used although I haven’t tried it myself. That still has a cost so not ideal. Mixing the resin gently should reduce the risk of bubbles.

Wow stunning! Thanks for demonstrating how to use deep pour water, curious if you have experienced the resin scratching? and is there a method/polish you recommend to address it?
@DartsideScenics
@DartsideScenics 2 года назад
Thank you Jonathan! Fortunately, I have never experienced a scratch but I usually have a layer of ripples (gloss Mod Podge) which protects it. If you don’t use a layer of ripples, I think it will always be slightly vulnerable to damage on a regularly used layout.
@JonathanChristian21
@JonathanChristian21 2 года назад
@@DartsideScenics How long did you wait before applying the mod podge?
@DartsideScenics
@DartsideScenics 2 года назад
@@JonathanChristian21 it usually takes 24 hours to cure depending on conditions. If there is any doubt, perhaps leave it for 48 hours.

This is surely inspired by the Postbridge clapper bridge, the realism is off the scale. Have you thought about making a collection of well known Tors? Yours is remarkable work, my friend.

Thank you. You are absolutely right- Postbridge was the inspiration! I have another video which goes into more detail on the clapper bridge build and I added some video and photos of Postbridge from the days I visited.
