what an incredibly high energy outstanding performance. our sons first year. thank you to an outstanding group of guys who genuinely care about each other. SOOOOO VERY PROUD TO BE A PART OF WOODLAND STRING BAND!!!!
Dear Mummers, Fralingers, Ferkos, crews, judges, street sweepers, feather twisters, banjo strummers... Thank you all. As a kid Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade had only ONE band that made me run for the TV....the feathery struttin Mummers. Until now, I had no idea I could've driven from Cincinnati to Philadelphia. Good Golden Slippers, I'm enchanted! Living this close and not knowing of this Parade is a travesty. I read the competitive comments. But for me, it all looks like the land of Glory!
Congrats To Woodland String Band . And thanks to the girl with the pink bandana , she said her father was in Woodland. She handed out schedule of events , and talked us into moving to better location to see it .
Woodland String Band has been a classy band since 1926 and them winning first prize is well overdue. They never won first prize ever! They were without a doubt the best band on the street. They had tons of energy and made the crowd go wild (I was sitting in the judging area, I would know). I know this band personally and they are one of the best group of guys. They know their music and truly put 110% effort into this band. Congrats again Woodland! Hands down the best performance this year!
Mummchicks thoughts on the parade: 1. If you weren't one of the dozen or so "mums" standing with me and Auggie Wsb under the boom at the finish line, I can see why you dont "get" that what Woodland put out there in the judging area was a first prize production. TV did not do their music OR presentation justice-they were INCREDIBLE live. In your face energy and passion from the second they started,
as an outsider who attends .. I think this was incredible . If it was based on just music performance . why wear costumes and perform at all .. submit an audio tape..and get rid of the parade.. I also think that the groups have taken their perfomances to another level now that the fancy brigades are no longer on the street... CUDOS to whom ever did the choriography .. they did a great jpb with switchup moves without any mishaps.. Costumes incred. on this vid n u know 10x better live
It was first time i went to watch mummers parade.. It was fun. I shot a lot of pics i wish i had video cam so i could record video as well. Does anyone know what time and where did they perform this? I know they did at Broad street at morning but this is night time. I guess i missed a lot. :(
(continued...) 110% effort from every performer, well-oiled production, so far into the judging area they pushed the music judges OUT of it-those guys went into the judging area like they were going to win it all AND THEY DID. It was an unmatched PERFORMANCE from soup to nuts, and I called it to win right after the last note was played. TV sound, above all, is what differs the most from what the judges are hearing live, please remember that when YOU are judging from your sofa.
@swinters, music wasn't thrown out the window, as much as I didn't agree with it, their music somehow scored 37.9 out of 40. For reference: Quaker 37.05, SPSB 36.9, Ferko 36.45, Fralinger 36.35, PA 35.1, Hegeman 35.05, Avalon 33.6, Aqua 32.6... Personally I thought Woodland's music was on par with PA and Aqua, a great show, but not best music by far.
@andsowedrifttogether You band didn't offend me, I know a lot of guys in your band, the asshole who had a comment to me offended me. This is just my opinion. I'm sure a lot of other guys are trying to figure out what the judges are looking at also. I'm retired now & have been for awhile. Tell Johnny Rob that Chal said Hi.
WOW, This has to be & is the most average performance, average suit , average music & overall average presentation I have ever seen for a first prize band. anyone who thinks they were a first prize band better get their head outta their ass. This was a sixth prize performance, no better. I have no idea what the judges were looking at, but they better change everyone of them. With that said, Congrats to Woodland, but common guys, you know yourselves you got a belated Christmas present.
