I saw Alvin Lee & Ten Years LATER in the late 70s at the Paramount in Seattle. I was about 10 feet back from the stage, just in front of where the seats start. When he went into the intro to this song you could tell who all the guitarists were in the crowd. He started walking to a different area of the stage, and a few hundred of us up front started waving our hands trying to keep him from moving to where we couldn't watch how he was playing that. He recognized that, laughed and walked right back to us. I'll never forget all the people leaning forward. We were all locked on his fret hand. Great experience and a favorite memory, as Alvin, and Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, were far and away my biggest guitar idols.

Probably the greatest guitarist of the entire classic rock era that sadly no one ever seems to talk about. Alvin Lee was pure fireball in his fingertips and unbridled ability in his approach. One of the fastest guitarist ever, he carried the same three nicknames his entire career for a reason, I.E., Captain Speedfingers, Fastest Guitar in the West, and my personal favorite The Man Who Played Faster Than His Shadow. It's rumored that Alvin was so finger fast that once fingered a groupie backstage and she exploded!!😉

Goin' Home is a medley of classic '50s rock and blues lines and riffs. Home. Alvin Lee was the fastest guitarist I ever saw and I saw most of 'em.

This performance along with Grand Funk Railroads "Inside Looking Out" are possibly the greatest live performances in rock & roll history.

When I first saw this I was like 10 ... damn! That whole Woodstock-stuff blew me away! ^^+gg This was the festival where huge names came out - nobody knew who Joe Cocker was until he played a hell of a gig at Woodstock :-) And: It was the first time I heard Country Joe Mcdonald with his song "i feel like i'm fixin to die" ... an anti-war-song which made 400.000 people to stand up singing for peace!

Songwriter wise there were better Artists at Woodstock and more iconic ones but this Alvin Lee number was the best performance .

Alvin Lee doesn’t read music, no formal instruction, loves to go wild and improvise his way home.

Alvin Lee - army of one. RIP btw - Leo the bass player was as good as Alvin.

THANK you! SOMEBODY had to say that. If Alvin had been a good but less remarkable guitarist, Leo Lyon would have received far more recognition as the amazing bassist he was (and still is, I suspect). I collect stage-used picks, and the very top of the heap, for me, among bassist's picks is a beautiful, extra-large, dark green tortoise shell one from the Recorded Live show. Truth is he barely used any picks, but he did use a few.
