Hello and welcome to our channel.
Thanks for watching and feel free to leave comments in the RU-vid chat below.
GIVEAWAY: When we get to 1000 subscribers I will be giving one lucky subscriber a hand made bowl. To be in with a chance of winning all you need to do is subscribe to the channel, like and comment on a video. Every time you leave a comment your chance of winning will increase.
In today's video we take some scrap wood and turn it into a pretty sharp looking (fruit?) bowl. Just about 100% of the wood for this project was leftover walnut, cherry, hickory, red oak, white oak and some ash hardwoods. Pieces were glued together in roughly 12-inch squares (about 30cm). Then each layer was rotated 90degrees and glued up again to a block of about 12x12inches (or 30x30cm). The block was mounted to the lathe on its corner axis. This is usually the method to make a three sided bowl (as shown in this video: • Woodturning - Three si... ) , but after seeing how the grain looked within this glue-up I decided to just make a standard looking bowl. How do you think it turned out?
Don’t forget to hit that ‘Subscribe’ button and ring the notification bell so you never miss out on our unique content. Doing so will help our channel grow and RU-vid will recommend it to a wider audience. If possible please watch the entire video, that alone will cause RU-vid to rank our videos higher when folks search for woodworking content.

Good question! I don’t regularly track how much time it takes me to make things, but I would say this particular project might’ve taken 4 to 5 hours total. Thanks for the kind comment. Take care, Michael.

Nice work. I have made a few of them three corner bowls! Not like the one just did. What is the swing on your lathe? My swing is only 12 inch so my bowls are smaller.
@SapperWoodworking
@SapperWoodworking Год назад
Thanks! My swing is 24 inches. Upgraded from a smaller lathe a few years ago without any regrets. Michael

How did you make the holder, bracket, stand for you exhaust hose? Any tips would be appreciated.
@SapperWoodworking
@SapperWoodworking 7 месяцев назад
Dennis, I didn't have any plans to follow. I just started with how large I wanted the opening to be and worked to the back where the 4" hose was attached. It was originally built for a smaller lathe so it was modified with some spacers to make it taller for my Harvey lathe (12" swing). If you send a message to sapperwoodworking@ G M A I L . C O M, (without the spaces in GMAIL.COM) I can send you some better pictures.

What’s an old saying about woodworkers that will keep every little piece of wood laying around the shop; always saving it for some project ! Well, there’s no time like the present so I’d say start gluing those pieces up and turn yourself a nice bowl. Cheers, Michael.

@SapperWoodworking
@SapperWoodworking 11 месяцев назад
Jim, it can be dangerous when turning odd shapes but you just focus on keeping your hands away from the project, which I suppose you should do even on perfectly round turns. Thanks for the kind words. Michael

would it be possible to turn small bowls on a drill press? lathes are a bit pricey
@SapperWoodworking
@SapperWoodworking Год назад
It’s possible I suppose! But I think a horizontal tool rest would be the safest and simplest was to go. If you make one work, I would love to see a video of it. Good luck and have a great day Michael.

what lathe make and model are you using in the video? Thanks
@SapperWoodworking
@SapperWoodworking 11 месяцев назад
The lathe is a Harvey Tools Turbo T-60S. Simply the best lathe I’ve ever turned on! It has great torque at low RPM among host of other great features. (And I’m not sponsored or affiliated with Harvey in any way). Cheers, Michael
