Woodturning - Hardwork Pays Off!!

I cut this piece of apple crotch wood around 2 years ago. I left it to dry as I do with most of my wood but unfortunately some massive cracks opened up both at the top and bottom. As I haven't turned much apple wood I wanted to start turning it and see if I could remove the cracks and make the replacement parts. I used some spalted beech to drill out the cracks and make the piece stand out.
The piece has been sanded to 10000 grit and finished with sanding sealer and wood wax.

Disclaimer:
My videos are for entertainment purposes only. Some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest, so when using any tool or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines first.
And Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practice. The gloves I wear are tight-fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT copy my actions if you feel unsafe doing so.

"I used some spalted beech to drill out the cracks." Not quite, you used a coring tool fitted to a drill press. I would indeed be impressed if spalted beech could drill out cracks! 😂🤣🤪😇👍👍

Very very nice piece, Time could have been saved on sawing and sanding the inserts off by just turning them off at higher speed

That is very interesting. I thought you were making a birdfeeder until you started adding glue and plugs. It is a beautiful vase / umbrella / cane stand? Either way nicely done!

What are you treating the ends of your workpieces with and why? It looks like some sort of oil, but I don't know why you'd use oil on just the ends.

Quality craftsmanship, but the plugs don’t work in my opinion. They just look weird and out of place.

Nice one Harry. Just wondering if you ever use the top edge of the Spindle roughing gouge. It gives a much cleaner sheer cut and smoother finish?

OLA CARA AMIGO, SUAS PEÇAS SÃO DE UM EXELENTE ACABAMENTO E MUITO BONITAS,,,, MAIS GOSTARIA DE LHE DAR UM GRANDE CONSELHO , (NÃO USE LUVAS QUANDO ESTIVER TORNEANDO ) , SE POR UMA DISTRAÇÃO SUA OU UMA PEÇA PRESA NO TORNO SE QUEBRAR E ENRROLAR OU ENRROSCAR NA SUA LUVA , ( MEU AMIGO ), VOCE VAI SE MACHUCAR BASTANTE, E OLHE LA, SE VOCE NÃO PERDER PEDAÇOS DE DEDOS OU ATE DAS MÃOS. 1° PRIMEIRA REGRA, NÃO USE LUVAS EM ALGO QUE GIRA ! _ POR MAIS QUE VOCE TENHA SEUS REFLEXOS APURADOS, SEU MECANISMO NÃO ABSORVE COM RAPIDES E AGILIDADE. __ PORTANTO É UM CONSELHO, NÃO UMA ORDEN . MAIS PENSE NISSO. ABRASÇOS.
