This was another piece saved from a fire wood pile ..Its a chunk of spalted beech with a double crotch. It was pretty gnarly to turn and almost ended up back on the firewood pile !! I gave it a coat of light oak stain to help the grain pop and then finished it with Osmo oil ..

That's phenomenal. I still can't believe that such a beautiful piece of wood was destined to be firewood. It's so beautiful and unique. Thanks for saving it.

9:27 Looks so interesting, makes me wonder how it would have turned out if it had a clear resin coat on it so you could still see all the gaps and splits, but the resin helped keep it solid.

Aha! A pitcher made for catching and dispensing moonlight! :D Another lovely natural piece.

I saw light at the end of the tunnel at about 7:50, too! Lots of voids and you celebrated them. The spalting on this piece was stunning, so dark and pronounced. I really like this one, Andy! Great job, thanks! Phil

I just love the grain. Even without the stain I loved it. Light wood almost black looking grain. The shape appeals to me too

Was sort of hoping there would be some epoxy work to seal it up... An asymmetrical chalice with a viewing window and see-through depth Gage... but that's just the personal bias of a pragmatist showing through. Visually, it is a beautiful piece. Working with "fissured" material is a risky proposition, yet you make it seem as this is a non-issue... Wonderfully done.

@Andy Phillip. Another brilliant piece of art, it looks like a restored artifact discovered at an archaeological dig site. I'm curious to know why you didn't use a resin with some nice colors to not only help keep the piece from breaking, or to crack later? Also with resin and color would have made look like what a piece like was suppose to look like 3000 yrs ago. Now, How can I get one of your, pieces, if you sell them at all. Thank you as always for sharing, Maybe the History channel need to make a new series in the genre of that forging show, or like chef masters. I bet you'd see a lot of good pieces.
