Thanks Stewart really appreciate your comment 😁 I've made a stand alone video dedicated to sharpening on my channel that goes into more depth, which you might find interesting 👍 thanks for watching
Beautiful wood Tom. I was concerned with those deep checks in the wood, I would have been CAing them, but you just went on an turned them without issue. Experience rules. Thanks for the video. Stay safe and healthy to keep them coming. Cheers, Tom
Very useful explanation about the chuck diameter I've been turning for a couple of years and each little detail is valuable. You've shown me loads of things here which will really improve my safety and skills. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Very usefulseeing as I have just been given some laburnum and I have a huge lump of yew if ever you're desperate enough to visit England. I can't drive unfortunately but we do visit friends in Knighton if you're aywhere near. 😊
Thanks Donni, it normally doesn't grow very large as its more of a shrub like tree, so was pretty lucky to get hold of some this big 😁 thanks for watching 👍
Thanks for your comment 😁 one of the best tips that was given to me when I started out turning on how to get unusual or different spieces of wood was to contact your local tree surgeon and explain your a wood Turner after some wood for turning, I've found by doing this i normally have a regular supply of different wood species for free , although the catch is you have to be willing to take what they have when they have it(some times a trailer load) and have the ability to process it yourself, I always woodturn them something nice as a thank you which tends to go a long way. I hope this helps 😁 thanks for watching 👍
Magnificent crotch bowl wonderfully presented. I’ve not had the courage to tackle such a project yet in time I’m sure I will get there thanks Tom us novices are learning so much from your videos.
Thanks Martin glad you liked the video 😁 lots of practice is the key to progressing on to more difficult projects, I'm sure you'll get there 😁 thanks for watching 👍
Another great vid Tom. Seemed pretty tough going around the centre of it for a while. Lovely piece produced. Enjoyed the quick tool sharpening section too especially as I’m in the throes of getting a sharpening system set up. Keep em coming fella
Thanks David, it was really tough probably a bit to dry for turning, I've got a video I've made all about how I sharpen all of my tools that goes into more technical details which might be useful for your sharpening 😁 thanks for watching
Hi Tom, STUNNING!!!!!! I don't remember ever seeing a piece of Laburnum that big before. It is one of my favourite woods to turn as the grain is just amazing. Great shape on the bowl Tom that brought the crotch piece to its best. Ardderchog. Hwyl, Huw
Thanks Huw, I've never seen any this big before either, I was quite lucky to get a big batch, the pith in some of the logs has rotten through so been using them mostly for pen blanks, I'm going to have a go at turning some small side grain hollow form out some 😁 thanks for watching 👍
Thanks Neil, I didn't put any finish on the bark area, I just kept it natural but I could have added an oil finish to the bark area 😁 thanks for watching 👍
Thanks Douglas I've just looked it up and it is poisonous 😳 I filmed this project a good few months back and we both seem to be ok so hopefully haven't got any lasting damage to anything 😊
The mask is a JSP power cap active with impact resistant face shield, I've had mine for a few years and couldn't recommend it enough 😁 thanks for watching
@@intrepidshedman3309 thanks for your comment, you make an excellent point. I normally wear a respirator while turning but didn't use to while filming. I now use a 3M versarflow respirator, which I wear for all my turning and have started to do voice overs instead of talking on the video for the latest videos I've filmed. I hope you have a great evening 👍
