Woodturning One Log, Many Bowls

In this video, I turn a log into not just one bowl, but many. The ambrosia patterns in this wood are beautiful, and each bowl has its own shape and look. It’s green wood too, so the shavings are more like streamers!

Absolutely beautiful! All of them! Gorgeous! As for your “soup cooler”, have you ever considered doing voice overs, narrations, emceeing, and the like? I love your speaking voice. Semper Fi!

@@RHumphrey What's a "negative rake"...? Is there a "positive rake"...? What's the difference...?
@RHumphrey
@RHumphrey 4 года назад
@@zainquadri1206 A negative rake scraper has a bevel on the top and bottom, which allows a less than 90 degree approach angle to the work piece. This almost eliminates checking or catching. A proper Negative rake scraper also has a bur which allows for very fine cutting, and reduced tear out, which is why you may see shavings rather than chips flying off them at times. A regular scraper doesn't have a top side bevel.

Love the work you do. Thank you for your service. I was wondering how this may work. If you turn a very green bowl thin-ish (thin enough move a lot) and let it dry. I will oval-ate and crack. Dry it completely. Cast it in resin then turn it. the wood will move into and out of the finished resin bowl and the cracks will be filled with the matching colors. PS I really like the bowl with the holes and inclusion. The shape is splendid.

Not bad for one log at all! I very much appreciate that, when someone sends you a piece of wood, you take your time and study it before deciding how you can best put it to use.. so you can make as many beautiful and useful things out of it as possible. That level of thoughtfulness, the understanding of and respect for the raw materials that nature provides to me seems like a rare thing in today's world!

What do I use to seal the ends of a fresh cut burl to have it dry without checking and cracking? Will beeswax do the trick? My one burl came off a Maple. I left a lot a room on the log to the burl. The tree ended up being hollow so I'm not sure what the burl will look like once I start turning.
