Welcome to Ian Mac Woodturning! In this weeks turning video I decided to use some Oak to make a nice pot, there we some cracks but we used a little resin to fill them in & it worked pretty well.

This is a Lovely piece! It was worth staying up to watch. I like the blue resin: A very nice contrast with the lighter wood! It is very welcome to find craftspeople who accept that a piece is not perfect, yet they can still work with it, and make it both beautiful and functional, despite its flaws. You have done so, here. If I were to go with Resin, it would be under similar conditions. Just filling a few cracks, yeah, that would be good. My oldest son works with resin every day so it might happen that I give him a small task to help out his dad. 😎 We'll see! Nice one Ian!

Nice recovery from the cracks, and a good way to conserve epoxy! Those are saw blade scratches on your hand, if I'm not mistaken. Be careful!

Well that sure turned out beautiful. Nice work. PS I have that same curved neck hollowing tool. I’ve never used it on an angle before. I do like it for deeper hollowing like you were doing, not just around the opening.

Hey Summer! It filled the gaps all the way through but on the inside it was turned so it’s only in the cracks and nowhere else 😊 I’ll post of pic of the inside

I have had a lot of trouble using my gooseneck hollower , does holding at an angle keep it from grabbing so much? Thanks Ian, Like all your videos.

Thanks David, I would say try setting the height of the tool rest at middle of your work & turning your gooseneck chisel slightly anticlockwise from handle end and see how it goes. As always with a chisel a steady approach to surface of the wood is always advisable. Appreciate your support my friend.

Set the tool rest far enough away from the area you are cutting so the straight part of the gooseneck tool is on the tool rest. That will keep the cutter in contact with the wood at the dead flat angle EWT tools are designed for. And of course have the cutting edge on center of the work piece
