A little change of plans along the way. The life of a wood turner. It turned out beautiful. I saw your new lathe. Thats the one I have and I love it. I can reverse it to sand. I like that feature. I just want to say thank you. You have taught me so much. Thanks again and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.
I just got a jet 1221vs & love it. It's small enough to fit in my work area, price was do-able , power is good ... it's a lot more fun than my old used mini, that only half worked! Also like the reverse for when I'm sanding. Now I am turning some of the wood I've collected over the past year!
Real nice ornament, Carl. I don't make the top that long, though. I just make a couple of humps and an dimple in the center to locate the hook. I do something that Don Russell does, cut the eye and shank from a fish hook. Drill a tiny hole right in the dimple on top and glue it in with CA glue. It makes a very small, strong but unobtrusive eye to tie on a small loop of fishing line to hang it up. Merry Christmas to you too, Carl, and a Happy New Year! Larry
Hi Carl, Don't the little changes of plan and minor accidents always seem to "turn out" for the best. Thanks for all the videos and Happy Christmas and New Year from Merrie England.
I found your page while watching kendama videos and I am hooked. I love things like skateboarding, drumming, and playing videogames, but this is something new and fascinating and more exciting to me than kickflipping a 10 stair or beating the newest Final Fantasy game. You are a master of your art and I realize this video is ancient but keep up the good work! Also, thank you for adding such a grand new thing to my big bag of knowledge! Take care, Tommy
Hi Carl another great little project as usual. I have watched a good many of you video's as I am a beginer and between you & Capn Eddie I have learned a great deal so have a great Xmas & a good New Year From Aberdeen Scotland
Great video as usual. Could you describe what wax you use to sand with? Doesn't that interfere with the final finish? I use shellac on most of my projects. Will that bond if I were to sand with the wax you use?
Another great project. What are the usual grits of paper use sand with? I know you regularly say" Finishing with 600" but what earlier grits? thanks, gregg Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Did you make that angled scraper Carl or buy it from somewhere? I would like to have an angled scraper but have no way to make one and can't afford to buy one. I also need to get a fingernail grind on my 3/8 gouge but don't have a jig for that. Jeez I almost sound like I'm whining, but it's true I need so many things but have no way to get them :)
Unfortunately I can't make one. I haven't got the tools I need to do that. All i have is basic turning tools, the mallet I made a grinder and band saw that's all lol, so I would need to buy it or have someone make it.
love ur work and has inspired me to do woodturning!! ive only been doing it for 2weeks, and have all hand tools besides lathe. i started a Face book page ( Just One Wood Turning) and would love for you too check it out!! maybe one day i will have your skills along with tools needed!! lol
