I have the same clarinet. It is great.

Why don't all clarinets have that type of register key? It seems superior overall.
@coloraturaElise

It is, and that's a good question. Tom Ridenour, the designer, is always trying to improve clarinets and make our life easier. He also sincerely wants everyone to be able to afford a great instrument, which is why he developed this clarinet.

Changing those A and A-flat keys to be more like saxophone palm keys would go a long way to making the clarinet easier.

I realize I'm late to this party and your setup may well have changed by now, but this is almost the same as my setup. Ridenour Lyrique Libertas, Légère Signature European cut and a Rovner Dark ligature. Only the mouthpiece is different. I'm using the Ridenour Homage mouthpiece, but I'm not in love with it. I think I'd like something with a wider tip opening (this one is super narrow).

Try Tom's MT36, which is a bit more open.

How do you like the Walter Grabner mouthpiece?
@WoodwindDoubling

It's excellent! It's been my go to piece on Bb clarinet for the past 4 years.

How often do you come across Eb Clarinet parts in shows? Are they essential to have, or are most parts cued on Bb Clarinet or flute in most reed books? Thanks, Nick
@WoodwindDoubling
@WoodwindDoubling 7 лет назад
It really depends on the show, and what other instruments are on the book. In West Side Story, the Eb clarinet is essential. In A Chorus Line, the Eb parts are double lined for flute. The Eb parts in The Producers are not double lined, even though there's also flute on the book, as the specific timbre is more important than the pitch range.

Great videos thank you for this knowledge! Do you recommend getting an A clarinet or just a Bb?
@WoodwindDoubling
@WoodwindDoubling 4 года назад
If you're planning on doing any orchestral playing, an A clarinet is a must. Otherwise, optional.
@coloraturaElise

If you need an A clarinet, I can recommend Ridenour's new Lyrique Libertas A clarinet. He has a new manufacturer for his keywork, so it's amazing now; I just tested one for a couple of weeks. I play his Libertas Bb and it's the best clarinet I've ever played! As Merlin mentions, hard rubber clarinets are great, and the price point is unmatched in the industry!

Have you felt the need to upgrade from the 576 to the new Libertas? I play on a 576 and I’m finding the network kind of an issue. Have you had problems? I really love the sound but the keywork goes out of adjustment far too often.
@coloraturaElise
@coloraturaElise 3 года назад
Hey, Fernando, Tom has just upgraded the keywork; the company that was making it for him was just awful, so he has finally found one he's happy with. I just tried one of his clarinets with the new keywork, and it's so good!

I see you use a mouthpiece patch of some sort. What is your opinion of them? How long have you been using them? Great videos!!
@WoodwindDoubling
@WoodwindDoubling 6 лет назад
Dexter Brown - It’s probably a Vandoren patch, but I’ve used patches by Runyon and BG as well.
@RoseCadenza

I've used patches from time to time. The thick ones I find very uncomfortable. The thin are all right, but I feel like you have to replace them about every few months. I don't use one currently. I had one on my alto sax when I was playing it for a few months.

Where can I buy an ebonite clarinet

I'm an amateur player; do you feel the pressure or need for professional instruments, i.e. all wood, etc?
@WoodwindDoubling
@WoodwindDoubling 5 лет назад
Chad B - not at all. In a professional situation, people care what comes out of the horn, not what it’s made of.

@@WoodwindDoubling Thank you! Your videos are great. You should set up a Patreon page. Out of curiosity, if one wanted to follow a similar professional path similar to yours, would that person do their undergrad in performance (choosing one instrument) and just learn the others on the side?
@WoodwindDoubling
@WoodwindDoubling 5 лет назад
Chad B - there are degree programs in several universities in multiple woodwind doubling; so it’s possible to work on all of them at once.

Did you have to buy another barrel(64 mm) when you bought this instrument?
@coloraturaElise
@coloraturaElise 3 года назад
Tom's clarinets play so in tune that you don't need extra barrels.
@pmwizard48
@pmwizard48 3 года назад
I found that out when I bought the Noblissima clarinet last December. Tom’s instruments are very good. I own saxes also(alto and tenor), but just enjoy playing Tom’s clarinet.

@@pmwizard48 hi! It's hard to find info about the noblissima, even just a vid/clip of how it sounds, differences...how do you like it?
@pmwizard48
@pmwizard48 3 года назад
I like playing this clarinet very much. Plays in tune in all octaves with a good tone. For the price, a definite keeper.
@anjiah
@anjiah 2 года назад
@@pmwizard48 Thank you for the input!! Yeah, for the price, definitely worth it. I've only had a "beginner's" clarinet for years and at new, it's more than the noblissima, which is crazy. Been thinking about an upgrade lately since I want to play the clarinet again, and the one I have isn't that great. Oh, how is the tone/sound compared to the 576? Thx
