Hi Huw... This one is a bit different from your usual projects... I've only made one walking stick and the top fell off... ugg The threaded rod is definitely the right way to do it... and I love the dark wood tips and base... nicely done... Great video as always... I got quite excited when I saw the title of your video as a new walking stick is on my To Do Soon list but I'll be making a T-shaped handle in ash (probably) with an oak shaft. I like your idea of reinforcing the handle/shaft joint with steel rod. I'm off to see how Grahame tackles his part of the project.

I saw the finished video first so I know it turned out lovely, but still had to check this one out as well. Came to your channel from Doug Miller's channel, by the way. He referenced a pen video of yours in a pen video of his. I'm thinking of trying to adapt the method he used on the pen to adding a bit of fanciness to the shank of my next stick, so a roundabout thanks for the inspiration. Cheers!

@@WoodenItBeNice Very true on all counts! I'm just watching your Celtic knot pen video ( Bog oak and cedar of Lebanon) and I'm thinking that this would make a brilliant spacer or collar for a stick. I keep a notebook next to the computer for whenever inspiration hits.

Hi Jason, The wood was given to me by a friend who owns a joinery shop so it was bone dry and is Welsh Oak. It was originally going to be part of a staircase. I will watch your video and have subbed and hit the bell for your channel. Take care. Hwyl, Huw

@@WoodenItBeNice Ahh ok good to know, I’ve seen oak could take 1-3 years for the average walking stick diameter but haven’t had much experience as this is my first year attempting a lot of this stuff.
