Usually I like to skip through to the good parts on many build videos. yet here I am, watching every minute of your videos in anticipation of your next witty one liner. Your commentary is superb, as is your work. Love your work legend and many thanks from Australia.
The builders of our home placed the studs on 24" centers for every non-load-bearing wall in the place; on the plus side, it only requires a stud finder to determine if a wall is load-bearing or not! :P
Awesome job, boy, your neighbor's house must be bare and nearly naked by now, from all the years of "Finding" material lol, love it when you salvage from the neighbors. Lol God Bless to you and the Family!!
This is a really cool build. You could have glued in the plugs at the end. To remove them. Drive in a screw in the center of the plug. When it bottoms out on the inside screw, the screw you are driving will pull out the plug. If that makes sense. Well it makes sense in my head anyway.
I cannot ever skip through your videos. They’re so freaking entertaining. Your sense of humor is so welcomed. Our woodworking community is full of amazingly talented people but you add something completely different. Your brand of humor makes your videos fun for my family to watch with me. Thanks so much for that. I have an 8 year old daughter who has taken such a liking to woodworking and she loves watching what you’ll build next. Until the next one!
I just want to say that I love how you use the flathead screw in every project to embed a little of your grandfather into each project. I've watched your channel for quite a while now and I admire you for a few reasons. I just lost my grandfather one week ago, and it just hit me different watching you put that screw in today. He was a hobby woodworker and family chef, and for as long as I can remember he was my father figure, too. I still had and have a dad and also a step-dad, but he and my grandmother was always there for me and my brother when no one else was. He was a constant in our lives. His death has been hard on me and I can honestly say that he is the reason that I have such a passion for woodworking (and cooking). My Granny told me that, if I wanted, I could have any and all things in his shop... I don't need a lot other tools for what I do in my own shop, but it will be great to use some of the same tools he did for so many years in all of the little things I do. It's not just me building things out in my tiny garage shop now. It will always be me and him. I'll have to find a way myself to put a little bit of Papaw in my projects. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for your content and for the little brightness you gave me today. I hope this brightens your day a little, too.
Very creative design and nicely done. Your neighbor called and is trying to acquire an army for a siege on your basement reclaim his plunder so beware.
In our family we call that dorky grin a “meat cutting smile” the smile you get when you ask my father in law when you want to take a picture of him carving the turkey.
Hola! 🖐What an awesome project, I really like this one. I don't want Grammy to see this one cause she'll put this at the top of her list! That means I'll HAVE TO move this to the top of my list! 😂Take care and have a good one, Adios!👊
With all the liberated boards missing, I'm amazed your neighborhood is still standing... I'd love to have a neighbor who's garage is build totally of unnecessary walnut.
A good place to store all your humor before using it. Get it nice and dry. (yeah, I recycled this comment from the one I made on Instagram, but it's the only one I've got, and I like it, so I'm using it again.)
Nice Rack Man. (That felt weird) How about Awesome Drying Rack... Lol So glad you had those old junk boards the guy next door didn't need. Love the finish. That is my kind of way to put finish on. Wipe it on and wipe it off... Eazy... Thanks Drew! LLAP
Cool! One thing I know from experience, though- wood is really the wrong material for drying rack dowels. They're just too small, too long, and need to bear too much weight.
Honestly, it depends how you intend to use them. For myself, I only put a sweater, or a towel, or delicates on there. So my main desire was for it to look a specific way .... and as it was being built for ME, my preference has a bit more weight. 😉 But for someone else, they can feel free to swap the material to metal bars, or even paracord without much alteration to the building process at all.
Outstanding design! On the base where piano hinge attaches, couldn't you make that board wider to extend shelf out further? Then make several additional shelves with each being shorter. Then if you had 2 or more shelves they would all close standing upright together.
This is impressive engineering and planning. I picture my process starting out bold and the end result being a bird house that collapses and kills a family of birds
I think I got way too excited when I saw you had a new video posted. My 1st reaction was "and where the hell have you been!" . As always, outstanding job
Awesome video. First discovery: I thought there must be quite a few "oohhh.. crap" moments (like the breaking dowels or accidentally untying the two holding "thingies"...) Plus I hear music when you say trim down the thickness (does someone still know Disturbed's old song "Down with the Thickness"?). Very entertaining and lovely build.
Nice rack. That laundry room is way too fancy. All that unnecessary walnut and glue. I'm sure the plan was to keep the little woman happy while washing the sawdust from your clothes. 😉 The outtakes answered my question about you being able to hold that hinge steady while cutting the outline. I can never do that so I put a few screws in first, to hold it still, and then cut it in.
I've had the same neighbors for about 15 years and they are without a doubt the very best neighbors that I could ever have HOWEVER they have NEVER offered me any walnut and they know I'm a woodworker! :) Nice finish to the laundry room Drew. Thanks!
That’s a really nice drying rack. I hope you never get tired of it and use it as a treadmill. And just the other day I was wondering what to do with all my old shot puts, now I know. Thanks for more helpful hints Drew.
Looks great, Drew. I'm guessing the chairwoman liked it. At least you didn't have to risk being caught by your neighbor since you already had a stash of his wood handy. Take care. Bill
Love how the drying rack turned out Drew! You can't beat the beauty of figured walnut.....it looks so nice with the countertop and other pieces you've already made in that room. That's a place anyone would enjoy doing laundry!!!
Wow Drew.👍 Your videos make my day. Enjoy the comedy that you bring to the project . And I hope you know that your are very skilled . Did you design it from scratch ? That’s very impressive
Very classy and cool design, Drew! Liked the way you used the half laps, plenty strong and relatively easy to do in your neighbors beautiful walnut. However, I'm a bit skeptical you actually left Grandpa's Oval slot head in that hinge with the other flat heads. 😳 Thanks Much for all you bring to the community, a real treat and blessing!
Yeah, had to wait a day to enjoy this but it was worth the wait! Many a chuckle while watching the modest master at work. 😁 Such a clever design and beautifully executed, so fortunate that you have such a forgiving neighbour too, that wood of his is gorgeous. Great job. 👍👏
I really hope your kids or grandkids look at these things one day and ask why there's a mis-matched screw in there. Hearing the story of great (or great-great) grandad would be amazing. Especially on pieces like this.
Hey, you painted the laundry off screen! No fair! =P Seriously it looks nice though, last video I was thinking fresh paint would accompany all this lovely new wood better.
At the beginning of this, I thought that you might have made some of your design goals to be mutually exclusive, but you pulled this off beautifully! I'm going to snag the plans. P.S. I was soooo looking for a head bump on the rack in the outtakes...🤪
I think we need to start a new game called Fisher Bingo. Create some randomly generate boards with "Fisher-isms" in the squares. If you get five in a row why watching a video, you win! Instead of a "free space" in the middle, we'll put in "Crap" because there's always at least one of those in the outtakes. Need ideas for the other squares through... here's some to start: References "borrowing" from the neighbor. "Tapperoos." Uses a slot screw Appearance by shop buddy 1 or 2. Uses unnecessary walnut. References his small work shop Other ideas?
Drew, I love this idea over all the others I have seen. We have a small Laundry room area and I think this will be the best option for us as well. Thank You, Michael
Great idea well designed and executed! I ordered some Odie's Oil earlier this week and then I saw it in your video. My son just used it on some butcher block countertops and he's really pleased with how it looks. I appreciated seeing your Col. 3:17 reference!
