I really liked this video. The Cabriole leg is my wife's favourite type when it comes to furniture. Time to get out into the shed and make some bedside tables. :)

Been watching wood videos for last 4-5 months and not learned much I didn't already know- BUT THIS is very interesting- thanks John for showing us how to make legs like this - some outstanding craftsmanship here!

You have very nice teaching style - straight to the point, and from this side of the screen its like you are teaching a young padawans about woodwork - well done!

Made a set back in high school . Used a wood carvers chisel to carve out the claw foots at the bottom . Very nice rewarding work with your hands . Great job !! Fixing to make a treated plant stand using this technique . Thanks for the inspiration . 😎

Well done. A simple straightforward explanation and demonstration. Cabrioles are really quite simple in theory. Where it gets critical is the finishing and that can take years to get really good at. Don't worry about the camera. I'd rather see a good craftsman at work than a good videographer. As long as I can see what you are doing and hear your explanation, it works for me.

Dear John, thanks for the video. I feel I shouldn't.... But I feel I am just missing it-- why, after the initial cut, do you rejoin the piece (ala with the painters tape), for the second cut ? Sure it would be much easier to handle like that. But I feel like I am missing something here.

The template gets marked and cut on two adjacent sides. In order for the second side to have a flat surface for the band saw, you have to tape the original cuts back together (and then rotate it 90 degrees and cut again).

You keep a flat reference on the bandsaw, so your piece comes out uniform and it makes it faster

@John_Malecki

I did. I hit nails all the time. As long as you arent cutting tons of them most blades hold up in my experience.
@ldwithrow08
@ldwithrow08 6 лет назад
I usually use bi-metal blades even on wood. They are a bit more expensive but they are made to cut metal and eat nails for breakfast. In the right pitch they do fine in wood. You might have to move a bit slower but it's worth it.

Hi John, for a 16-inch tall table, the wood to make the cabriole style legs ¿how many inches should be? Can a 2"x2"? Or is it very small? thanks
