In this video we will make cocktail smokers with and without a lathe. These are great for gifts, and fairly quick to make. I hope you enjoy!

If you add a metal loose tea strainer in the down chimney, it has a small lid attached by a little chain. Light the chips, then put the lid on and smoke goes down. You don’t have to just use it on alcohol, cheese tastes really good like this too. Happy 2022 to you.

I would use finer chips. It’s a trial and error thing but you should have much more smoke pouring into the glass.

Use very fine wood chips in order for it to burn properly. Awesome job in making them.

@@daigleswoodshop5159 The shavings from your lathe work great to make more smoke in the chimney. I use the chimney down and have a recession so that the flame pushes the smoke into the glass

I like the way you work…nice job ….I found they work much better with coarse saw dust (like off a resaw bandsaw) but just a pinch; not too much; we dont want to completely block the screen. Also with ice in the glass It creates a natural downdraft. This was my experience 🙏

I wondered if a small relief vent on the top side that could be plugged once the smoke fills the glass might make it work better. Your thoughts?????

I'm honestly not sure about that. I have a few extra, maybe I should try it out! Thanks for the input

would have turned it on the lathe in one solid piece. glue a few pieces of stock then turned it. maybe glue a few different kinds of wood sandwiched together.

Did you ever figure out how to get them to smoke really well? I just made a very bushwack version of a chimney on top one and it doesn't smoke super well. I wonder if the size of the chips matter?
@daigleswoodshop5159
@daigleswoodshop5159 3 года назад
I actually got it to smoke really well! The chips I used were about the size of a goldfish (the snack not the actual fish) and it did fine. When I wasn't getting smoke it was more due to the flame strength. When I used a stronger torch, I got better results. It could also be the hole from the smoker into the cup. I made mine 1/2". Hope that helps, thanks for watching!

Ive noticed the chips they sell for these cocktail smokers are grinding much finer than normal wood chips made for BBQ. More smoke less butane.

Use a large drill bit and drill into a piece of wood you want to try. The shavings from drilling the wood work great.

If you put a loose tea strainer cup in the down chimney, it has a lid attached by a small chain.. when you light the chips in the tea strainer in the chimney, just pop the lid on it, and the smoke is forced down into the glass. You don’t have to drink alcohol to enjoy this, cheese is great down in a jar. Have a great 2022.

For these smokers, what wood did you use? Would Beech wood be as good as white oak?
@daigleswoodshop5159
@daigleswoodshop5159 2 года назад
I used cherry to make the smokers and I used pecan for the wood chips. I think beech or white oak would be fine to use for either the smoker itself or the chips. Any wood that you would use to smoke meat could be used for these smokers, the possibilities are endless!

what did you use to make the metal screen?
@daigleswoodshop5159

I just used some screen patches (like to repair a screened in porch) that didn't have any kind of coating on them. Nothing super special
