Lovely video as always pete. I would like to say your a inspirational guy m8 through watching your journey with woody inspired me to take the plunge in to the world of falconry I now fly a male hh called Max Thank you
Good to see you and woody out and about again Yes you can only try But it’s not only about the catch as you know Just getting out there and doing your thing with woody and the dogs is a big part of it Enjoyed the video
I agree it’s not about the catch, it’s certainly nice to get out in nature, once’s the cover has been knocked back it may change. Glad you enjoyed it 👍
One thing's for sure, using just bells for a hawk would prove to be a challenge in the event the hawk goes a mile away where you can't hear the bells among other background sounds like birds chirping. If it hadn't been for the flock of birds circling your hawk, you would have needed to pull out your telemetry for sure. Luckily he was way up on the top of the trees, but if he wasn't, you wouldn't be able to know exactly where he was. If a Falconer lives in a desert or is hunting in the plains, I'd say they could get away with using just bells for a hawk. Once you add in brush and bramble in the mix, that's when it gets complicated. I learned all this from you. Although, I'd prefer to spend the extra money on GPS tracking rather than using telemetry though. It seems that the hunting season has been on a rough start, no catches at all! I enjoyed seeing Woody fold his wings while he manuevered between the 2 trees! At 14:17 I enjoyed hearing his calls when he was waiting for you to flush a rabbit, but they aren't the chirping calls I used to hear when he was younger. They sound like the "I'm really mad" calls! How come he can't make the other calls instead?
Some beautiful hunting land there Pete. I’m sure once the cover goes down a bit you will bolt more game. Cover seems to take longer and longer every year to go down. Great vid as always 👍
Thank you for sharing your latest video Pete. Your loss is still raw and yet you still make the effort to share your adventures with us - and some marvellous flight footage BTW. Your videos are always an education for me, 👍🏼
That's a lot of exercising you have all done. I hope you have had a hearty meal too, Pete. I have found maxi has taken most of my hunting so I'm struggling to find food too.
@freebirdofreason1994 yes, George and I seem to be having a game of snakes and ladders. Been swallowed twice so just about to start the climb again. If your up for it ill fill you in while we are on the up again. 😆
I wonder Pete did you ever do an insert in one of your videos on what you wear while hunting. The reason I ask is I get very warm while hunting even while wearing only a T-shirt, jacket and waistcoat plus pants and boots of course. Any thoughts on keeping cool because even on cold days I get too warm. I am probably a stone over weight which does not help😁
This made me smile, I’m the same over heating, I’m usually soaking in sweat. Yesterday I wore just a T-shirt and jeans ,boots, falconry vest, but get shredded on brambles. Normally I have gortex over trousers plus cheep wax coat, unfortunately getting hot is a daily event, I love the frosty icy weather. Good luck it’s a tuff one. 👍
