Why does everyone panic when Tae uses a knife. If they'd leave him be and keep a watchful eye rather than taking it from him he'd learn to use it. Sometimes over-caring for others can stifle growth - like helicopter parents. Their children tend to grow up uncertain and/or weak. A little cut here or there won't kill anyone, you learn to avoid your mistake the next time. It's how you grow.
