Thanks for this video Dave. It took seven years to get into my RU-vid feed. 😉 In 2004, I made a capote from a green military wool blanket. I used directions from a Mountain Man Craft book. Took me one evening (maybe 3 hours) to complete. Didn’t have a hood, but it did have a rabbit fur collar. I wore it exclusively for nine winters, and had multiple people offer to buy it from me. One offer was for $200. It lasted nine winters in the Appalachian Mountains, and another seven winters off and on in Texas and Tennessee. I finally retired it because all the fringe wore off and it got too many holes in it. I have since made three more capotes from wool blankets (with the hood). I still have one and wear it only when I’m at a rendezvous. A fantastic piece of clothing that isn’t hard to make. This hat would have been a great addition to my first capote.

Dave, I'm really enjoying these loom, weaving, and sewing type videos you've been doing lately. Thanks, as always, for sharing.

Easy enough for anyone to do. I really like what you choose to bring to us. The other day, I was trying to think of all the things I've learned from you since I started YouTubing,18 months ago. From in the beginning, when I threw my poplar bark away not knowing about it's tinder value, to more recently buying the right used H&R Single Shot 12ga because I remembered your advice on what to check for on used firearms before buying... and then there's those 100 other things I've learned in between. Man!Thanks for all your videos and your very generous spirit!

Wool army blanket patterns is a brilliant idea for a series Dave. It would be awesome to see others as simple as the hat. You keep coming up with original content, thats what sets your channel apart. :-)

I have full respect for people especially woman and grandma's who retain the skill to knit and sew, as a kid I thought my grandma's knitted sweater was as lame as it gets, now I realize I was wrong and I would cherish a knitted sweater!

Not sure if Dave will see this but I am wondering was there a big difference between army blankets and Navy blankets? I remember as a child my dad always had really thick grey wool blankets from the Navy. Damn things were so itchy as a kid but they sure kept you warm at night in some Wisconsin winters. anyway just wondering about this. If it helps the blankets I'm mentioning were probably from the 70's to late 80's cause when I was in in the sub service ours were different.

A little bigger, and you can definitely have a wool hat with upturned edge, or bigger and can be pulled down for a neck covering (and most especially an ear -and- ear lobe protector). Robin Hood and his band of men in green hats ....
