I am a new male knitter and I enjoy watching your videos. I started knitting after a stroke. I found repeating the movement helpful but I also find that knitting is not easy. I would very much enjoy a beginners video. So much to learn.
Hi Jack, I had a stroke in my 30’s and found knitting help with the spasticity. My physical therapist helped me find ways to knit easier. There is a really good book by Carson Demers called Knitting Comfortable that helped me a lot. He is featured on Fruity Knitting on RU-vid. Fruity knitting is inspirational and you learn a lot. I always do Stephen’s knit alongs as I learn so much. Wishing you all the best 💗
@@susanlmackie thank you for the support and information. I plan to check on the book. I find that my left side does not always agree with my right side so I tend to make mistakes but when the knitting goes well it feels better.
I’m so glad you are making a series and it is so nice to meet Stitch. You have such a joyful positive persona and we need that positivity. Thank you so much. 🥰
Let’s see/hear it all!! Your history to present would be great to learn. A modular project with lace, cables, stranded color work, and other Westknits craziness all in one would be an awesome shawl.
This was like having coffee with a friend to catch up and it was relaxing and fun to watch. I have a retriever/border collie mix, lots of energy but more of a blanket to curl up on kind of dog, though in the winters here in Wyoming , he could use a colorful out for walks sweater. He about 40 pounds.
I LOVE the idea of a modular sample piece. All the different types of stitches knitted into blocks, so, stranded, brioche, cable, lace then brought together West knits style in a modular shawl or throw xxx
loved listening about your projects and how you work your patterns. I have been a knitter for about 50 years and have always followed patterns to a tea. Then i discovered westknits and my internal knitter was twitching as i love love love colour, texture and the unique process of your patterns. To make items to suit yourself to change and play and experiment is truly marvelous i now incorporate this fun behavior in my other craft spinning, weaving and dying and it makes me happy. snuggles to brioche and stitch pets are a blessing and fill you with unconditional love.
Yes, yes, yes!!!….doggie sweaters. I signed up for your Brioche Class so by the time your doggie collection starts, I’ll be ready for the one Stitch is wearing…woohoo!!!
So happy that you’ve started this RU-vid series! Love everything that you mentioned for upcoming episodes and workshops and will definitely take the brioche workshop. I’ve been so intimidated by that stitch and based on your MKAL tech videos I’m sure I’ll be able to learn it. Looking forward to the next episode!
I have four pups that all love sweaters, a Chihuahua, a Lab and two Great Danes! The Danes love clothing, especially since we live in northern New Hampshire where it sometimes gets to -30 F in the winter. So pup sweaters in multiple sizes would be AMAZING!! They deserve to look as fabulous as we do!
Really enjoyed this video. Especially liked hearing about BFL and the benefits of this yarn. I would love to hear more of your favourite things, such as yarns, and what you would suggest using them for (pros and cons). Thanks!
My 6 pound chihuahua could probably wear the size you made for Ditching. She's adorable! I can't imagine life without my little guy. I love your videos. You are so amiable and seem very approachable. I love how you explain new techniques and point out how to correct mistakes. More please.
stitch has to be the most laid back pup ever. I wish my two tiny Yorkies were so calm. They are crazy, always chasing around having two speeds, super-speedy or asleep.
I’d like a workshop for newer knitters and intermediate knitters. Please keep doing these podcasts because I love listening to you; very entertaining. And your voice is soothing
Omg - would love to have a pattern. I make dog sweaters for shelters so I make all sizes. Looking forward to the pattern. Love your shows and instructions.
Oh yes Stephen!! Doggie knits galore please! We have 2 chihuahuas and an Australian shepherd. The Australian shepherd isn’t pocket sized like the two girls but he would look so handsome in brioche. I also love that you are including your children in the videos! They are adorable 🥰
Oh my goodness Stitch is a curie patootie! Yes please to dog sweaters and a workshop. Please consider larger sizes. We have a 110 pound mastiff lab mix who loves the custom sweater I knit him. He actually takes it out of his box when he wants it on. I had no luck in finding a pattern for larger sized dogs so I made one up as I went. It would be fabulous to have a well designed pattern.
The idea of an amazing dog sweater pattern from you brightens soul. My husband is the only knit worthy human in my life aside from my fur kids. I have big boys, but big boys like nice things too. Standard Poodle and Goldendoodle. 🥰
Hi Stephen: Love this episode, seeing Stitch, your WIP's, hearing your ideas and learning about the wool (especially when and how they are best used). I have lots of your patterns but never know what yarn is best to use for which project. I've signed up for your Brioche Workshop as I really enjoyed the "Textures Unite" which was the first time I was successful with the brioche stitch. You are an excellent teacher so keep up the workshops. I've done the Vertices Unite and looking forward to your Modular Knitting Workshop. If you could show part of your store/workplace each episode (for those of us who can't travel). Please keep up with your short tutorials as I've saved most of them on RU-vid but if you put them all in one place, that would be helpful. Would love to hear your story although you have touched on it in some videos. Love to hear your different options in your patterns (i.e. you can do this, or this, or this ...... ) as it sure helps someone like me who can't design worth beans. Your don't stress attitude puts things in such a positive light for me and I'm looking forward to more Episodes like this. It's a good way to get to know you and how you go through your designing journey for your projects. Love to hear the previews and tidbits and I'm a sucker for details. lol. Thank you for all you do.
i am soooo happy you got the pups. nothing better than woolly goodness and puppy belly. and in your case- lots of sweet snoring. love the Keith Haring wallpaper... i was fortunate enough to chat with him down in the NYC subway way way way back in 1982. we did not know then how big his artwork would become. so glad to see it now and then. yeah
I’m always curious as to what the reverse side of the knitting looks like…in shawls/scarfs. It can be part of my decision making process. I guess I really like reversible knitting….. Keep up with the good work. The podcast just got a thumbs up from me….
Stitch is adorable and quite the lady! I am so excited to hear of a Penquino workshop, and the Modular workshop. Thanks for the sneak peek at that workshop’s project. You mentioned incorporating different stitches in a modular project. I think that would look amazing! Really enjoyed watching this. I feel like I’ve missed you recently, so great to ‘catch-up’.
Hi Stephen! I really enjoyed this Wooly World episode! I will definitely tune in to hear about whatever topic you decide to present next 😀 I have a mini dachshund (named Siggy) and have knit him 1 sweater (which he tolerates in our cold Ohio winters). Of course his long back is the most unique feature to which I have to adapt, but also his broad chest and short legs! Thank you for all you are making available to the knitting community through your patterns, and videos. You are a treasure!
Loved the video, and hearing about what’s coming up. I’ve admired your work for many years, but always thought it was beyond my ability. After taking the plunge with Shawlography, and loving it, I’m currently knitting my third Westknits design. :-) Would love to see more on pup shawl knitting. I have a 14 pound bichon/poodle mix and have knit sweaters for my boy, but he’d look so handsome in a Westknits design. Lastly, I’m lucky enough to be coming to Amsterdam this fall, and looking so forward to shopping at S&P’s in person, so I’d love to see a video store tour! Thanks for all you do, Stephen! You bring a lot of joy and beauty into the world .❤️
Yes!!! Pup knits. I have a 10 pound Yorkshire terrier and a 5 pound Yorkie. The super small one simply stopped growing and she’s always cold. THANK YOU!!!
I honestly feel like I'm going to end up casting on all the Westknits sweaters this year. gone on a bit of a sweater knitting kick and I love me some Westknits patterns because of the regular changes that keep me on my toes either in colour or texture!
Yes! More please! What about a vlog... a day in the life ... favourites places to go around Amsterdam (potential vacation spot)... favourite foods, drinks, etc., of course knitting and more knitting!
My knit worthy dog is my husband's service dog Cooper. He is a husky king Shepard mix so unfortunately no sweater for our house wolf...but my best friend has a Yorkie who is knit worthy too
LOVE LOVE LOVE this episode! you and now your pups are such a joy. I'm so intimidated by starting a sweater and I want to knit one. What confuses me is how to measure for a particular pattern. As a woman, do I measure chest with or without a bra, padded or non padded, lol do I measure underarms or is it shoulder to underarms, arm length....how do I know which style sweater will fit best....
Love to watch your updates on Brioche and Stitch they fill me with joy, and yes my baby boy dog child Jackson is a Staffordshire medium to large size as he has gained some weight in lockdowns, we are both trying to diet LOL, but a Brioche stretchy coat for him would be perfect 😍. As a workshop suggestion I have knit your Monsieur Plastique sweater and love this unusual construction, maybe a sweater construction class would be great for a variety of body types, I find all your patterns so interesting and learn new techniques all the time, thankyou so much Stephen 💜🌈💚
Thanks Stephen for your infectious smile and all the fun new projects coming up. I enjoyed meeting Stitch, she is beautiful. I would love to participate in a pup sweater class. I have a Chihuahua/mix and she can always use additional warmth. Your current format was great and I look forward to more. Happy Knitting
Love to hear you and Stitch sit and chat. 🥰I would like to learn more about modular knitting, different ways of picking up stiches to create different looks and joining the different parts together and how to make different sizes of Icords and to make it look nice
Stitch is so cute, and the brioche sweater is not only adorable, but very practical as it stretches every which way to fit. I have a small long hair chihuahua, about the size of Stitch, that is begging to have a colorful brioche sweater.
Oh yes please a series of pup patterns would be superb Stephen. I have a toy poodle - Riley - our little girl lives the life of Riley for sure. She weighs in a a whopping 3.3 kilos!! It would be such fun to knit her a sweater. Love this new series - Thnak you
My daughter has a rescue dog that has grown into a mixed hound breed called Mr Beau, as he is so handsome! I am going to knit him a sweater to open on Christmas Day so that he doesn't feel left out and I like the brioche design that Stitch is wearing.
Love the pup sweater!😍 She looks like a purl Stitch! Adorable! Congratulations on the new baby. I have mini poodle I'd knit that for. Thank you for all your inspiration. Blessings
Great fun. I would love studio and shop tours. Also I find it really helpful and engaging when you show and talk about your patterns, helps me understand them and choose what I’d love to knit. You are inspiring. And love your pups!
I thought my dog was well dressed until I saw Brioche and Stitch in their custom garments. My little girl is 15 years old and a Maltese X Miniature Fox Terrier. I’ve been knitting jumpers for Miss Pippi Shortsox since she was a tiny puppy. She needs jumpers more than ever now that her coat is thinning and she’s had a Vet check to eliminate causes. I loved this video, I think you’ve persuaded me to make a Penguono for myself.
Doggy patterns would be grand! I have a cavoodle and a cavalier King Charles spaniel. I love Stitch’s jacket 😀. In terms of content - the variety you suggested would be really entertaining so all of it please! Thank you for injecting a massive shot of originality, colour and creativity into fibrecrafting.
You're so adorable! And very talented! I'm so glad You Tube suggested you. You're puppies are so cutest! I've got a morkie and a pekechon. Love them to death! I love the sweater in the back! Thank you for being so wonderful!
Stitch is heavenly. She looks like a real cuddler. I’d love to see a Day in the life of Stephen West - I’d love to know more about what it is like for an American living in Amsterdam. I’m also interested in your take on colorwork and, yes, dog and cat sweaters would be awesome.
Stephen, I've heard about you, read about you for years from hand craft people I love and respect. I've seen photos of your beautiful and glorified work. I NEVER thought you would be so kind and friendly, approachable and dedicated to helping your followers. I'm enchanted by you as I have been enchanted by your work in the past. I subbed and can't wait to become more engaged with your outreach. ❤❤😍😍
A workshop on fading would be fasbulous!! I love that idea. I will take the brioche one when I can afford it. I am more of an intermediate to advanced knitter, so the beginning stuff wouldn't be of interest to me, but I bet there are a whole crop of newbies who would. Also, I really like the idea of modular knitting. I am really wanting to do more stranded knitting, but seeing it YOUR WAY would be inspiring. Because I'm not really as comfortable with that. Mixing stranded knitting WITH modular would be fabulous!!! Mash up, yes!!! Mixing texture with shaping. All terrific ideas.
Loved the new wooly episode and look forward to seeing similar on a regular basis. I’m happy to see new designs and the process used to arrive there. Interesting yarns that work well with Westknits patterns are great. More pup stories and designs will always go down well. Thanks for taking the time to share more insights xox
Would love what's new in the shop, behind the scenes of the studio, your favorite spots in Amsterdam, pet knitting. Thanks for sharing! I am a better knitter because of your generous spirit and encouragement.
I am constantly amazed by your creativity. It is kind of you to allow us into your mind's eye and explain the evolution of your designs. Waiting for the movie version: "Being Stephen West". 😉 (Chicago/Illinois misses you)
Really loved this video. You are always great. I loved all the tutorials I use the shawl design one all the time. You have given me the freedom to go wild with color and to wear multiple knits at one time. Thanks
Love this episode, especially all the sneak peaks. As for sweaters for our fur babies- I have a 70lb pitbull that would **love** a brioche sweater. I like the idea of brioche for the sweater too, it will allow enough room for his big chest. 🐾 hugs to you, Stitch, and Brioche. 🥰
Would love to hear more pupdates and sneak peeks of upcoming designs. I like the idea of showing new or favorite yarns/tools as long as there is a mix of price points to fit lower budgets.
Def love this update! So much fun to see the puppers and get an update on your patterns and plans for workshops. The shop updates would be fun too. I can't wait for the Penguono workshop.
LOVE LOVE LOVE your channel!! We have a lab/Rottweiler mix; so she is a big, strong girl. Hubby says "spoiled", I say "well taken care of". I love how you use so many different colors & fibers & make me feel like I can give anything a try to see if it works. Since I am a advanced beginner, your close-up videos have been invaluable. Thank you so much!
I loved this podcast and am thrilled at the prospect of West Knits dog sweaters. It would be exciting if you could size a sweater for greyhounds. Their challenge is a very deep chest that tucks sharply as it angles to their back legs. While there are lots of patterns for small dogs it's not easy finding patterns for greyhounds. I'm looking forward to more of your podcasts. Hugs to Brioche and Stitches.
Thank you for the lovely episode Stephen. I would absolutely LOVE❤️ a dog sweater workshop so that I can finally start knitting puppy sweaters for my darling chihuahua-can' t wait for your puppy sweater designs either🥰
