WHICH COMBI BOILER IS BEST. BAXI 600 v WORCESTER BOSCH 2000. Worcester 2000. Combi Boiler. Baxi 600. Combi boiler reviews. www.cchleeds.co.uk/services/b...
Which combi boiler is best. We're going to do a review on the Baxi 600 and we're going to compare it with the new Worcester Bosch 2000.
Baxi 624, Baxi 630, Baxi 636, Worcester 2000,
COMBI BOILER REVIEW. Which combi boiler is best? BAXI COMBI BOILER or the new WORCESTER BOSCH 2000. Gas boiler stripped down and reviewed.
This is going to be a fairly in-depth review from the size of the boiler. We'll look to see if they'll both fit in a cupboard to what accessories you get with the boiler. Then we'll do a full strip-down of both boilers, as well, so you can have a look inside and you can see the quality of each boiler.
What I'd really like is if you can at the moment now, if you could pause this video, and if you could just put what you think of the boilers before. And then afterwards at the end, if you could also then put what you think of the boiler. Yeah, just let me know your opinion and that'd be really helpful. And also it gives a big balance for anybody else who's watching. So it's not just my opinion, it's everybody's opinion. So if you could do that, I'd be very grateful. And I'm still smiling, Jess. Thank you.
Well, I'm measuring a standard cupboard and then what we'll do we'll have a look at the boilers and we'll see which one will fit in a standard cupboard above. So standard cupboard, for my cupboard here, is 320 millimetres which is 32 centimetres.
On the Baxi 600 range of boilers, we need 290 millimetres. That's 285 is the boiler depth. And then we need five millimetres clearance in front of the boiler to the door, to the cupboard door. We've also got 700 millimetres for the height of the boiler. So you'd have to make sure that will also fit within the cupboard. And also check the manufacturer's instructions for the full clearances above and below.
Included in them clearances on the Baxi 600 range, so that's the 624, the 630 and the 636, you can also take the pipes up the back and that's included in that depth. So it's a cupboard-fit boiler and the pipes can go up the back on it.
Let's take a look at the Worcester 2000, so the Worcester Bosch 2000 combi boiler. This is a bit harder to understand. For some reason, they don't put the dimensions on here, and you've got to look below. The boiler depth is zed, which is 300 millimetres. Well, that's 15 millimetres more than the Baxi. And the width is 400. The Baxi the width was 390.
But the most important is will it fit in a cupboard, which is number eight; number eight is 320 millimetres. So as we can see on there it will fit in the cupboard. Obviously, we'd have to check these clearances on here to make sure you get your clearance above and below. So the Worcester 2000, or the Worcester Bosch 2000 will fit in a cupboard. There's no space on the Worcester to put the pipes up the back. So if you did need to put the pipes up the back, you'd need to see if you was to do a standoff kit for it.
Which combi boiler is best? So what I'd like you to do now is pause the video again and put some comments below and tell me what you think, how your opinion of the boiler is so far.
Now to look at the boilers, which one looked best? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me, I'm not really bothered by what a boiler looks like as long as it's easy to work on, and that's the most important thing. Most of the time boilers are going to be in cupboards or they're going to be in carriages, or somewhere where you're not going to be looking at them. So yeah, that's up to you. Which one looks best? Again, please add it in the comments below.
Both boilers you've got your pressure gauge on the front so they're both easy to see. The Worcester doesn't come with a filling loop, so you need to buy your own filling loop for the Worcester 2000 or the Worcester Bosch 2000. The Baxi 600 range, so the 624, the 630, the 636 they all come with a built-in filling loop.
So what we'll do now, we'll take the covers off and we'll have a look inside. Always remember if you're going to take a cover off a boiler, you must be Gas Safe Registered or competent to work on gas boilers. So yeah, let's have a look inside.
To remove the cover on the backside, we've got a screw on the left and a screw on the right and the case will just lift off. Same on the Worcester 2000, one the left and one on the right and the case will just lift off.
Just before we look inside these boilers, we'll just see for the size of them. I don't know if you can see that, but the Worcesters ever so slightly bigger but not an issue really. One thing I will say about these Worcesters is the pipework here. I can only describe it as absolutely shocking. The pipes don't line up. Now, this is my personal opinion, but I just can't understand why Worcester would do pipe work like that. It's just crazy.

Allen the reason the front panel won't stay up is because of the divertor head facing forward if you just twist it to the side the front will stay up perfectly👍 great review I always send my die-hard Worcester customers to this video and they always see the light and now with the Baxi 800 its a easy sell. Thanks for all these videos Allen I'm an experienced gas engineer myself but I still learn a lot of new ideas from your videos.

I have a Worcester 30cdi combi and recently serviced. Informed the condensator required a new seal and that the cost of replacing so expensive that it may be better to have a new boiler! The Worcester boiler reputation appears to be pumped up! Just looking at the differences with the baxi having better quality parts and easier to service, if I have to have a new boiler I would prefer the baxi. So very informative and honest, which will help me to decide the best way forward. Thank you again.

I have never installed a Worcester Bosch, nor have I ever quoted one. I work on that many as a breakdown engineer that I know better than to recommend one. Baxi, I don't see half as often and when I do I love working on them. I also really enjoy working on Vaillants. So for me, the Baxi is the winner of the 2. Looks, I couldn't care less as most boilers are in a cupboard or a garage. Mine for example is in an outhouse and not in the main property.

You're spot on here alkan. I fitted a 2000 ladt week and thought it was horrible, I'm not the biggest Worcester fan anyway. I hated the downward tails and found everything close together like an old Remeha avanta. I also found it tricky getting a standard nut and olive to grip the brass on the prv. One good thing was the cartridge slot for the rf stat, although if you fitted a none Worcester control I'm told it avoids the warranty. Will be staying with the 600 back or even the Main Eco elite.

Thanks for the video, bit of an eye opener: #1 (Looks) - Worcester (looks more sleek and modern) #2 (Internals) - Baxi (seems to have better quality components and a simpler layout ) #3 (Strip down) - Baxi (easier access and removal) I confess I have a WC boiler for several years with which I have had no issues. I would have chosen differently had I have seen this beforehand.

Hi Alan, Iv'e enjoyed watching your vids over the last few months. Our old Baxi solo 2 60 RS is hanging in there by a wing and a prayer hopefully for the next couple of months fingers X. Anyway we want to change it for a combi boiler with good HW flow to a loft room and heat output, e.g. Baxi, viessmann vitodens or other? and as your the most honest opinioned plumber iv'e watched on here, what is your choice for a 4 bed semi with a similar retro fit under floor heating system to a suspended floor as you fitted as well. any advise is grateful..... keep up the the great vids

I have found the Baxi to be a good solution as you can use the bracket to put the pipes at the back of the boiler without increasing the depth of the boiler. Also make sure you fit the prv before fitting the other pipe work. Bit of a nice touch on the Baxi if water enters the outer flue the tube takes it into the condensate. Worcester were very good 20 years ago but the majority of the new boilers composite blocks pin hole at regular intervals. Not that easy to replace.

Big fan of the Baxi 600 & 800 Combi. Fitted over 100 of them. Easy to install & service. I fit the occasional Worcester at the customers request, ok to fit but not confident in the long term reliability. I’m service & repairing Juniors that have leaking plastic parts - very common on these.

Are Baxi parts very expensive when compared with other makes like Vaillant? I'm in the process of getting quotes for a new boiler & one installer says this is the case - I'm not so sure though.

I'm looking to replace our Worcester Bosch combi boiler which is now 10 years old and has had several parts replaced due to leaking, this was a one off repair by WB costing £285ish 2 yes ago. It still working but has started leaking again. Watching a Baxi review of the swapout of a/our WB compared to the ingoing Baxi 800 suggests the layout of and component materials of the Baxi outweighed the Worcester Bosch offerings. Your reviews seem to favour for similar reasons too with the Ideal Max coming a close 2nd. Cheers to you guys who give us consumer's some real insight to help us make better choices..

hi Allen made my life alot easier with this brilliant review! im gona go for a 40k baxi. i wanted to ask, do i need to upgrade my gas pipe from 22m to 28? its gona be a nightmare if i do! if i do, then does the 28m have to come from gas meter? i have about 3metres of the 22m pipework exposed, so would it make a difference if i upgraded just that part? so it would be 22m from metre for about 7m then 3m of 28 then then again about 5m of 22 to the boiler many many thanks

That's more then likely down to incorrect commissioning. The baxi's I've fit in the past have had very few problems. Your system probably wasn't cleansed and inhibited properly. Your installer may have left cleanser in the system. Or non of the above. 😂

Allen Informative as always. Installers will choose BAXI all day. Flue Options Pipe Options and serviceability . The 600 is a fine Boiler Wb are over engineered and difficult to work on in tight spaces . Also wiring controls is clearly another biggie: choice is very important here. I saw comments re: not a fair review etc etc ....If a product stands up it stands up , if it doesn't it doesn't.BAXI wins in my opinion and would do against most boilers in this category.. Great work mate,,

0.75 bar or 1bar. Usually anything equal or similar to the system pressure. As when the system water expands it will expand into the vessel. Too little pressure in the vessel it won't work. Too much pressure in the vessel you might pop the prv.

Our present boiler is a Baxi but is out of warranty which was 7 years.. we are looking to replace it with a 10 year Warranty model. From your video though in our opinion, whilst first liking the easy to adjust controls compared to the neat look of the Worcester, the Worcester looked impressive on opening, but as your demonstration seemed in our opinion to look good including the remote, the ease of access plus the materials the Baxi is shown by you, suggests that it would be quicker to do its annual checkup with, especially if stripped down. It would help to know how they are set up by the consumer ie timer, if both use wi-fi for setting the temperature etc, and whether our existing remote would work work with a new Baxi. All of which is only our opinion.

Well made and very informative comparison video Allen. It's a no-brainer as far as simplicity to work on is concerned. To actually have to use a mirror to inspect a main heat exchanger or ANY component is not a very good Idea from to off. As you state in the video most combi's are installed in a cupboard or tucked away in a corner somewhere, where natural (The best) or even artificial light is far from ideal. I bet you first go to on a lot of jobs be your head torch to see what is what. And it be cast aluminium exchanger , by the looks of it (the Worcester) which needs more thorough inspection for pitting/Cavitation all to be done via a torch and mirror. MMM, okay if you want to do a text book inspection, you would have to use a mirror to check for cavitation on the Baxi exchanger, but , lets be honest from what is so easily visible on the Baxi, you would not need to. Where's the room to use a mirror and torch! and get gown to see the mid and bottom section of the (Worcester) exchanger!!. Well, THERE ISN'T ANY!!!!. With the Baxi you get a far superior visual layout, Per Se (never alone it made of a more superior material), A fitter would be able to give it a far superior inspection to this unit. So to be kind to YOURSELF(Easier Access= Less hassle=Less money) and your FITTER ,the BAXI IS WAY IN FRONT. Allen, I have watched many of your vids and think they are BRILL!!!.One point though Allen, could you also give a general price comparison for what the units cost to purchase and maybe???, how much the general and realistic service/Repair items costs and their availability( diverters, Expan Vessel ,Fan units, Pressure switches, etc). This will be of great help and be Paramount (I think)in any purchase decision.(You know, it's no good buying a Rolls, if you can't afford its running costs after)And its BRITISH to (well was??), if you want to be patiotic!!!!!. :-)

Worscester's, Ideal Isars Vokera, Remaha are the worst boilers to work on , fault find and to change parts. Who cares about the looks it's all to do with what it can do and different accessories from different manufacturers that can be used rather then being limited.

Baxi 600 looks like a return to form, loved the Duo-Tec and Platinum. Only issue I find is the diverter cartridge leaking (easy repair for me, 9/10 it’s due to a sludged system not the fault of the manufacturer) WB 2000 - what have they been smoking? 🙈 terrible trap, trying to reinvent the wheel with the ‘kebab’ heat exchanger, now a 15 year old design but removing backwards compatibility for the junior models electrodes. Then to add insult to injury no supported controls other than their own? I’ll be telling customers to steer clear! Who doesn’t want a Nest or Hive in their homes nowadays!? Great honest opinions Allen 👍

My personal opinion is the baxi blows the WB ouf of the water. The design of the WB is like you say over complicated and not very installer/service friendly. Also requires more add ons than expected. The condensate is a strange one to allan. Regarding the internal termination. Not a lover of the valves below either. Now im a Baxi installer so this may come across as biased , but baxi really are more installer friendly and have thought more about the GSE. Iv never fitted these new WB and after this video i dont think i would unless the custard pushed for it. Its a Baxi vote from me. 👍 Great video allan .

Hi I currently have a solar compatible combi boiler coupled to a mains pressure 200litre solar cylinder. The preheated solar water enters the boiler at the cold water inlet. The boilers sensors then adjusts the boilers output (5kW - 30kW) to heat the water to the set point 55C. In the event the solar water reaches in excess of 55C then the boiler power supply is turned off. This boiler was made by a German company 26 years ago and is no longer in business. I am looking to replace it and wondered does anybody know of a suitable combi boiler?
@richardnixon8410
@richardnixon8410 3 года назад
Tim, i am using a Baxi 105. I use a blending valve to pre-heat the incoming cold water feed, from my solar tank. No problems at all, the manufacturers don,t like to say its compatible to pre heat the cold feed, but looking at the water tempt through out a year the summer to winter difference is massive as the water enters the house from the mains. I think most boilers would cope with this, imagine a boiler in the shetlands to one in Jersey, once the water is passed the inlet group and into the plate heat exchanger there is no problems.

I have had no problems with Wilo pumps - millions of boilers have them as standard fit. Not sure about today, however they had a plastic type of carbon bearing which did not like dirt, while Grundfos had ceramic. A Wilo needs to have a filter on the system, which is sort of standard nowadays.

Good video Allen, The baxi wins it for me. I have fitted both but would have a baxi in my house. Very quiet too. All from the front servicing and great access to components. No need to replace the burner gasket when burner door removed as it is a silicone Rubber seal, compared to the Worcester which should be replaced every time. Also cleaning the Worcester heat ex is really awkward especially when it in a cupboard or near a ceiling. I mean have you seen the special brush they do? Its enormous. Controls on baxi are simple for the user and commissioning where as the Worcester is over complicated control panel. Please mention that the baxi also has a flue drip tray under neath the flue connection within the boiler, which is great if you get driving rain or leaking gutters for example and the water enters the air duct, which takes water directly into the condense trap and safely away. I have had several issues with other makes without this drip tray system and causing damage to electrical components. Keep up the good work Cheers

It has no problem but I have been given choice to change it as it's a bit old. I have been recommended Worcester Bosch 2000 Professional as a replacement. Im a Worcester Installer who fits 50+ Worcesters a year. Started fitting a few Baxi's recently for customers who don't want to Worcester prices. I can't disagree with this video or the majority of the comments favouring the Baxi. Really impressed with the whole range (well apart from the 200, thats a bit too flimsy). The Main compact seems the best value from the range. Problem is Worcester have such a high share of the market. Its not commercially viable in a lot of situations to hard sell the Baxi when the customer has been hard sold a Worcester by 3 or more other installers. I know the price talks to a degree but people are fearful of being sold a pile of junk. Shame really, Worcesters dominance and the whole Boxt thing makes me want to back some of the underdog manufacturers.

I only installed about five Viessman boilers. Four of them have needed new PCBs after 7 years......pricey. By comparison I've had very few problems with Logics and not a single PCB failure in ten years. Anyway you should be comparing these to the Ideal Vogue. One of my tests of a boiler choice is whether they pick up the phone when yoh need them. Worcester do, Ideal do. I fell out with Baxi when they printed a wrong PCB part number in a Main manual.....then refused to swap it for the right one without charging me for both. The trap should be cleaned every service so easy removal us a must.

In my opinion as a technician (I only repair boilers): From the boilers found in your country is another one that I like the design more: INTERGAS - the model with 2 copper coils one above the other and cast in aluminum block :) The Baxi 600-800 boiler is my favorite because it is much easier to repair with far fewer mechanical components with problems - In my country there is a brand of kober boilers from which the Motan Mkdens model is almost identical to the Baxi boiler where the major difference is electronic board - the electronic board from the model in my country I think is more reliable built - the ones from Kober frequently ask the technicians in the country what dissatisfaction they have and what changes they want :) Pro: cheap, simple, reliable designs, generic and cheap parts (found in Bosch Group boilers but no longer use these parts because they do not break), rainwater collection and drainage system if it enters the suction pipe of the air (from "mistake"), the Gas valve on 18-24V (much more reliable), the Grundfos pump, the design of the housing and the connections more practical ... con: - Design of the electronic plate housing made on the knee - The wiring chosen is not too inspired (Bosch has not used end-to-end connectors for over 30 years (I don't think they have ever used it)) At the Worcester boiler: Pro: -designed in great detail to the components (Con: it seems designed when it is broken by something (as in the older series boilers from Junker / Bosch series 3-5000 non-condensation do not know any boiler that electronic plate) has withstood more than 2.5-3 years) - quality of plastics - the secondary heat exchanger gaskets on the heating side con: -Wilo pump - combustion chamber - although it has a unique and original design it is a pain to make repairs on it or to clean the combustion chamber of deposits. - stacked design - honeywell gas valve - I have never seen a honeywell boiler part made to be reliable, Personally only when I see the name Honeywell on a boiler part I think how to hold it :)) - today I was at a boiler more old (viessman vitogas 100 -15 years old) with honeywell gas valve in which one of the internal rubber membranes was broken and which escapes a lot of gas (through a ventilation hole that communicates with that membrane) in the room where the boiler was installed - and it is the second case of gas leakage in less than a month at exactly the same type of boiler with the same gas valve model produced by honeywell (they are the only types of gas valves that I have found gas leaks in my life. no matter how old they were and I saw thousands !!!) - Secondary heat exchanger gaskets on the hot water side. - Hydroblock with many oring joints that can lead to leaks (nobody has distilled water in the heating circuit) Conclusion: All boilers will work well if a magnetic filter is installed on the heating circuit. And I also have a recommendation: In all boilers I would recommend where it is possible to install a 50l (why 50 ? its cheap 20E) external expansion vessel that will have to be depressed from 1.5 bar at a pressure appropriate to the installation on which 0.7-1bar will be used. If the pressure variations on the heating circuit are smaller and slower then the joints with oring in the boiler and the rest of the heating installation are less stressed (Taps, press joints ...) My favorite brand is Reflex can Zilmet if it still has I maintain the quality of the past models because everyone can become greedy over time.
