Umpteen is a determiner, used informally.
It means very many.
There is a similar word, ‘umpteenth’. Umpteenth is an ordinal number and is used to say that something happened or came after many other similar things.
Umpteen first appeared in the early 20th century and became popular as army slang in World War I.
Some example sentences are:
‘I know I’ve told this story umpteen times, but I still think it’s funny.’
‘We’ve been to this restaurant umpteen times but I still can’t remember the way.’
‘She rolled her eyes at her dad’s umpteenth retelling of the same old story.’
‘The umpteenth delay in the train schedule frustrated the commuters even more.’
