First of all, I'm really impressed how quick you picked up redstone. Took me months if not years to get to that level. Second, when you said "the reset should be the easy part", I actually said "oh you sweet summer child" out loud. The reset is always the hardest part. But that is something you can only really know from experience. At first glance you wouldn't think it. Third I want to give you two tips I wish somebody gave me years ago, most other important things you already learned: - Quasi connectivity: You already heard about it, but it's often hard to grasp. What you need to know is, that Notch was lazy when he made pistons, droppers and dispensers and copied some code from the door. So now pistons, droppers and dispensers think they are two blocks tall and so will trigger with a redstone signal that seems too far away, but only if it's above them, no matter in what direction they point. Just imagine them a block taller and it should all make sense when they get powered and when they are not. But they still need an update to actually notice that they got powered or unpowered. That is often done with noteblocks or powered rails. Other options are redstone dust and observers. They cause so many updates around them, that they often don't even have to directly touch the piston, dropper or dispenser to update them. Here you'll just have to experiment. Quasi connectivity can be really annoying at times and really helpfull at others. - Sticky pistons lose blocks when they get a short pulse. This can also be really helpfull sometimes and really annoying at others. Observers for example give out these short pulses. To make an observer pulse long enough to make a piston not lose its block, you need a repeater on two ticks. However, that doesn't mean right-clicking it twice, but only once. A repeater has a one tick delay by default, so putting it one notch further is two ticks delay. I wish you continued success and fun in your redstone experiments.

That is a very great explanation, I personally can vouch for the fact that Pearl is one of the best redstoners right from the start, if this rate keeps up she will be the best redstoner in the world!

This was EXTREMELY helpful, thank you. I love that way of thinking about them as being 2 blocks tall. I'm about to start a journey learning redstone and trying to re-create this.

The fact that the idea of wordle/mastermind is not even mentioned until almost 40 minutes into the vod makes this even more impressive. This was the Full development process, no research beforehand!

I know a few things about redstone, so this is quite the fascinating stream for me. First up making Wordle in Minecraft is not an easy task and you not only did it, but also with a very good balance between the things you automated and those you chose to do manually. It's amazing how quickly you picked up on different mechanics and everything. Still with some of the usually easier stuff like emptying a dropper it showed that you're still finding your way. Then again for that stuff I just take the same circuit all the time and these things not that easy to discover for yourself. Overall the pace at which you learn is incredible and I doubt there's many people who went this fast from the basics into the advanced mechanics, myself included.

When it comes to finding solution to small problems, there's some simple ways to make things easier. First up (and that's something that comes over time) it's important to understand how signals travel. Like redstone dust powering blocks weak, so you couldn't go through a block with redstone dust at both ends, however replacing one with a repeater works. Signals can travel up a slab or transparent block, but not down, things like that. Secondly for smaller subfunctions there's usually like four perfectly fine contraptions redstoners learnd and we've since then forgotten at least two, which makes the choice pretty easy.

As a linguistics student, I'd like to chime in on the "Y" discussion: When people learn vowels in school, they generally learn graphic vowels. Graphic vowels are letters (which are written, hence "graphic") generally used to represent phonetic vowels (which are basically defined as a type of sound produced with no obstruction or interference in the air flow). The reason there is no controversy around A, E, I, O, U being called (graphic) vowels is because they are pretty consistently used for phonetic vowels, even across languages (though there are some weird things sometimes, like how in English, "u" is often pronounced like "you", which starts with a phonetic consonant, but that's neither here nor there). But in English, "Y" is weird, because it is sometimes used for phonetic vowels (like in "pretty" or "myth"), and sometimes for a phonetic consonant (like in "yes", or the aforementioned "you"). In other languages, it may be used exclusively for phonetic consonants (like in Japanese rōmaji), or exclusively for phonetic vowels (like in Nordic languages), or it may be more like English. There are historical reasons for this, but I don't want to write ten paragraphs of history in this comment. So when teaching it in school, we have a dilemma. Normally, a graphic vowel should pretty consistently represent a phonetic vowel, and a graphic consonant should pretty consistently represent a phonetic consonant. It's not a problem for almost all letters in English, and the only exception is "Y", which does neither consistently. So, do we call it a graphic vowel, or a graphic consonant? Do we teach children that it is a vowel, or a consonant? That's the dilemma. Some schools decided to teach that it's a consonant, and others decided to teach that it's "sometimes a vowel", or that it's a "quasi-vowel", or something along those lines. I personally think it's preferable to highlight the strange nature of "Y" rather than just be like "It's always a consonant" and try to sweep the problem under the rug, because I think it's misleading and can lead to errors about the English language (for example, because of it, people started saying that "rhythm" is the longest word without a vowel, which is completely wrong from a phonetic perspective). So, yeah, choosing an item that isn't a dye but is also different from the other flowers is a wise choice, because it does highlight the actual nature of this letter. Additional, slightly technical note: I think it also doesn't help that the consonant sound which the letter "Y" sometimes represents is called a semi-vowel. It is still a consonant sound, but it's a very vowel-like consonant sound, in the sense that the interference in the flow of air is very limited compared to most consonant sounds. This classification of phonetic consonants probably adds to the confusion of both teachers who are confusing phonetics and writing, and students who are being taught in a confusing way. But in reality, the term "semi-vowel" also applies to the consonant sound represented by the letter "W", and pretty much every English speaker agrees that "W" is a (graphic) consonant (in English, of course, we're not talking about Welsh here). In the end, the difficulty of "Y" does reside in the fact that it can represent either this semi-vowel consonant or an actual phonetic vowel. I'm just saying that the consonant sound being called "semi-vowel" might just add to the already-existing confusion around "Y". TL;DR : "Y" is weird, it can be a consonant or a vowel, it just depends on how it's actually pronounced in a certain word. If you were taught it's always a consonant, then in my opinion, that was an oversimplified and misleading way to teach it. Edit : By the way, saying a word too many times and it not sounding like a word anymore has a name, it's called "semantic satiation"

If i remember correctly the full saying is "a jack of all trades Is a master of none, but often times is better than a master of one" which is a bit more pearl but i do agree that the saying is a bit lacking as pearl is definitely a master builder. But yknow, the original saying is a bit nicer than the bastardisation of the more common one

I know you probably figured it out and even have built this on the Hermitcraft server alreday, but about the reset system... If you want the items from the crafter to go back into the dropper, why not put the crafter facing into the dropper and then the reset button only has to activate a clock which sends 6 pulses to the crafter? :)

I think there might be two different games called Mastermind, then. I've never heard of the general knowledge questions version to which you referred. The version I know of is quite similar to Wordle, but with colored pegs. Interesting to know there's another version out there.

The "rapid fire general knowledge/specialist subject" Mastermind is a TV show, originating here in the UK in 1972 with some international versions of... varying success. The colourful pegs one is a board game, invented in 1970/released in 1971-72 as "Master Mind" but also very commonly written as Mastermind. As far as I can tell, neither one borrowed its name from the other!
