I was about to say it. Sun Yat-Sen I believe was dead when the Communists took power over the mainland. Chiang Kai-Shek was the leader of the Government of the Republic of China that exiled itself to Taiwan.
Sun Yat-sen was the first President of the Republic of China that ruled over all of China (including Taiwan) after the Chinese Revolution against their last Emperor. I believe he was dead when the Communists took power over the mainland. Chiang Kai-shek was the leader of the Government of the Republic of China that lost to Mao Zedong and the Communists. He exiled himself and his government to Taiwan. In short, saying Sun Yat-sen was the first President of Taiwan is confusing as it is both correct and wrong at the same time. LOL. Note that as of this time, Taiwan has not formally declared independence.
