In this video, we go to the positions with the FPV team of the Third Assault Brigade to show how their day goes on at the front. The workplace is in a dugout, where the fighters watch the broadcast from the Wings or Mavic on their laptops and select a target to hit. Part of the group works outside with a repeater, ensuring stable communication during long-distance flights.
"At first, we were standing in an open field under a bush to overcome the radio horizon or something else. We went through the stage of FPV development, starting with flying a digital camera in a mask, in a conditional proximity to the enemy. Then there was the stage of working with a tripod, when you set it up on a stick, on a mast. One of the guys turns it in the direction of azimuth, the other flies in a mask, and the third shines the Mavic. And then we came to the repeaters, which we raise into the sky, and with the help of which we are now covering a distance of 17 km with a video image to the ground, to the target we need to hit," says the squad leader.
According to the soldiers, the ability to control the drone well is not enough for an FPV operator. This can be practiced on simulators. However, in order to get a good hit on an enemy target, you need to take into account important nuances, such as the effect of electronic warfare or the influence of weather conditions, and have good terrain orientation, etc. The drone operator is also one of the enemy's priority targets.
"Drone operators are fired upon with KABs if they are spotted. They will not spare you anything if they spot you," says the engineer.
What is needed to develop FPV in warfare, why the drones provided by the state have to be improved, and stories from the combat missions of the 3rd Brigade's airborne snipers are in this video.
