It's an odd choice of grits, they're all so close together that it doesn't actually do that much to expand the capabilities of the system. If you're using a 320, you don't really need a 400 before moving on to a 600. The 220 is nice, but a 1000, or 1500 would've been fantastic to really expand the end results that the system is capability of.

Beyond just the selection of grits, doesn't this upgrade give you diamond as well as ceramic? I would view that as a net win as far as having flexibility to sharpen abrasion resistant steels a bit more efficiently.

Watch the Workshop brand manager video on the kit, they explain why you need grits closer together for the low end progression and unnecessary at the higher end polishing

I don’t really care about the mirror polished “social media” edge. I use my knives, and want a good sharpened edge, that’s easy to maintain. This system already does this well, with the new additions, fits the bill perfectly for almost any type of knife.
@MethodOverRide
@MethodOverRide 3 года назад
I agree 100 percent. The only thing I have found is that it was a little tedious to reprofile and sharpen an 8 inch kitchen knife. Personally I am looking forward to the 220 grit because I reprofile all my knives to be around 17 degrees and just do touch ups after the initial sharpening.

I do not know if the stones can be easily removed or are glued and I have to pry and I do not know if the replacements have adhesive or you have to glue them. Apparently the stones are well attached and I did not want to force it without knowing, anyway, I still have enough uses before changing them. Thanks!

The original Precision Adjust sharpener is my go to for many of my knives. However, I am very disappointed that the all metal ball joints on the stone rods have been replaced with plastic sockets on the newer stone rods. I noticed that when I recently purchased an upgrade kit for my older model Precision Adjust. I had hoped the quality would continue when the upgrades became available but I guess cost cutting is more important.

What I don't get about these companies and the reviewers(your review is great) is the angle settings are not true. When you set a angle of degree on any clamp style sharpener the angle is only the set angle if the cutting edge(90degree horizontal plane) is a specific distance from the rear rod height(90 degree vertical plane). So if you sharpen that Red knife in the video at 20 degree(weather or not it is accurate) and then clamp something like an Esee4 in then the angle will change because the cutting edge moves forward changing the angle of attack so to speak. I am not saying the sharpener is not up to the task because it is and it gets great reviews I am saying it is not accurate per the scale on the rear unless the cutting edge is in the same position for each blade. That is impossible without an adjustment to move the clamp forward and backward to set the cutting edge in the position that the device was engineered at. You have to use a digital angle hickydoodle to know where you are on the angle.
@ickdforce
@ickdforce 3 года назад
They did a video on that. The difference isn’t a huge deal. The idea is as long as you use the same sharpening system to resharpen the same knives, you get the same results. If you’re really dead set on a perfect 20 degree bevel use the magic marker trick, to match the factory edge, just like you would do with a stone.
@Sweetknives
@Sweetknives 3 года назад
For 95% of the people out there that need to resharpen a knife they bought from the factory, all they have to do is match the original angle (Sharpie trick) and you will be fine on each side. If you do that you dont even have to know what angle you are at, just that you are matching the edge grind on your knife. Usually the manufacture does a good enough job of getting a decent angle to begin with so it all works out. For the other 5% of people, sometimes myself included, we have angle cubes which allow us to find the identical angle. Where it gets interesting is that you are hoping that the manufacturer put an exact equal primary grind on the knife, cause if the primary grind is off a bit on one side, it gets somewhat tricky. I do like the idea of using the angle cubes to get an exact angle. I use that method on more expensive knives.
