Switch to new pattern FUNCTION + KIT (the PLAY button) Select LOAD KIT Scroll to a blank kit slot and hit YES Then hit YES + KIT (the PLAY button) to save kit, and YES + PATTERN (the SCENE button) This should lock your new kit to your new pattern.
yeah disabling velocity->vol is probably not what you want most of the time because then the vel parameter won't control the volume, not just the pads. though disabling velocity->vol is nice if you're using velocity modulation to do something else like cutoff or resonance or env mod amount.
This tips are pure gold, thank you! The kit/pattern association I was already doing, but without adding the bank to it, that's pretty clever! Another thing I will take is project prefix convention. In regards to Kits, the only thing I don't finish to wrap my mind around is when I want to use 2 dual VCOs (a bass and a lead), for that I use for example one of the toms to trigger SD, and the SD track I use it for dual VCO, but maybe I'll end up using last 4 patterns of current bank for that or something like that.
I love you.. if I could hug you I would. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR UNLOCKING THE RYTM!!! I was so frustrated. I need a 1x1 masterclass on this piece of gear from you because there's so much more I know I don't know how to do..
Hello again ! I do use the chain pattern in my live set (which I'm working on) because at some point the kick is modulating and plays different notes, over 8 bars. so I just quickly hold the chain button, the bank number, and punch the 2 pattern in the order I need them to play. to quit the chain you just press the chain button again. Also, your livesets seems really funky, one track even had lasers sounds aha where can I listen to your live ?
Nice that’s a creative use of the pattern chain function I like it :) Recently I’ve been focusing on my melodic techno project, Koposan. You can listen to it on Spotify and all streaming platforms (just released my first single) or you can listen to some of my DJ sets of originals here www.mixcloud.com/koposan/ehfm-radio-fizzy-juice-may-2nd-2024/
Great! Regarding your LIVE projects, how do you fill them up from other working projects? Let's say you work on a track on a different project and you want to incorporate it in your live project...
Good question! I just found an asnwer to it on the elektronauts forum: go to LOAD KIT menu, highlight a kit, hit function+rec. load other project, goto LOAD KIT men, hit function+stop. You might have some issues with the samples if they are not present in the project you will load the kit to. If they are present, the Rytm will find them and assign to the correct sound, even if they are loaded in a different samples slot.
@@TheDjFac Sysex should work but I want try also this option (3rd answer in the post) www.elektronauts.com/t/transfer-kit-pattern-from-a-project-to-another-one/8765
Thank you very much for your tips! Disconnected kits are nightmare, especially if you are using other Elektron devices (like Digitone where kits are connected) at the same time with Rytm.
Yeah right?I don't get this design choice it exposes the user to a lot of unwanted messing up of kits..and once you messed up a kit by mistake you are done, you can't go back! Glad you find my tip and thanks for the info on the digitone didn't know that there kit and patterns are connected.
Sorry, my terminology wasn’t fully correct. Digitone has no kits. But any data changes are connected to the patterns. So you can load any sound and modify it during the live session or sound design without any worry about other patterns, unlike the Rytm. But with your hack all should be good. Thanks!
And also, beside a) missing an on this machine, see message below: Why or how! can I assign b) real on this machine? Is it for real that this in not possible on it?? And finally c) why can´t or how can I "save" a specific "Mute Track Group" to a pattern? for example on Pattern A1 only track 1,2 and 5 and then while changing Patterns have an imidiate sound for example on Pattern A2 of track 3,4 and 8, without triggering the Mute buttons in Pattern A2 itself. This would be super convenient for live performances and for me the first thing I would like to have on the machine. Compare it to the super convenient functions on an old school rm1x. Thanx for help!
mmm good question, tbh I don't know the answer to that. I am only aware of the fact that you can mute/unmute multiple tracks at once by pressing FUNC and the pads (they should light up in blue). When you release FUNC you will mute/unmute the blue tracks.
@@solarj thank you!! tried this before, is a least a bit of a mute group. i might forward my questions to elektron, though I can´t be the only person, who missed this.) Good times!
Rytm has no pattern level mutes (takts have pattern AND global ie project level). this is on the short list of feature requests I believe for any number of people. feel free to submit to Elektron.
So far your videos are the best along with UserFriendly. Thanks mate. A lot of your org structure models my own and there’s other bits I’ll now adopt. Cheers
@@solarj do have a question tho, with the new machines like RAW and SyChip which take up the best spots for kick and snare do you use those just to sample and place on another trigger?
Hey Solarj, thank you very much! for the kit/pattern confusion-solution! Even if I like and appreciate the MK2 for a lot of reasons, I don´t get it, why such an elaborate and expensive drum machine doesn´t have a better manual! where all this is explained in great clarity and detail. This way one wouldn´t have to invest "months of time" to just solve such an important thing easily. Thanks finally to you! Another thing I really don´t get: Why is there no Undo! Button on this machine! Please help me out if I just get it wrong.
Yeah the undo function is medieval...by pressing FUNC and PLAY you can undo some operations but is very confusing and limited. As of now, we need to be careful to avoid messing up..
I have messed up so many kits on this machine. Even though I know to save on each kit. Sometimes I forget. And it makes me want to throw the rytm on the floor in a fit of rage. Lol the machine itself has so much potential. And I still have hope for it but I find the clunkiness of the interface hard to reconcile. Thank you for making this video I think more like these are needed and very helpful.
I really want this machine and as a DJ who gigged for some years, I can't imagine playing live being useful or easy if you can't think of a machine being useful in actual sets you can play in a live situation. Thanks for the tips! I liked your patterns btw
Thanks, glad you found it useful! I love the rytm for dawless live sets. It needs some prior programming but then is just fun and it sounds so good on larger speakers. I can't really DJ that well so I wouldn't know how to integrate in a DJ set, but sounds cool just thinking about it :)
This was super helpful. I hadn't thought of categorizing my projects at all. It's nice to find some workflow tips that are more than just someone reading out what I can already read in the manual.
I am super happy to read this! You went straight to the point of my efforts on my channel. YT is full of great tutorials on how to operate music making machines (often very helpful summaries of the manual), but not much about how people actually use them in real life scenarios. Maybe people don't want to 'share their secret sauce'?idk In any case I think that by sharing what you do and how you do it, you make your community (in this case electronic music producers) larger, stronger and healthier :) Thanks again, I really appreciated your comment man!
