Queensland employers are being urged to rethink their recruitment practices to tap into a local pool of work-ready talent - people with disability.
This year’s Disability Action Week campaign encourages businesses to consider the benefits of hiring candidates from diverse backgrounds, including people with disability.
Disability Action Week (26 November to 2 December) recognises the contributions people with disability make to our families, workplaces and communities, and to Queensland’s economy.
The 2022 campaign theme, “Workforce diversity, open up to opportunity”, encourages employers to consider the actions they can take to tap into pool of skilled and qualified candidates - and reap the benefits of a diverse workforce.
Workforce diversity means having staff with a range of life experiences, talents and abilities and - in a tight labour market - we know the best and brightest candidates of all abilities prioritise jobs that offer inclusion, flexibility and a supportive workplace culture.
Employers who embrace diversity attract top-tier candidates and experience bottom-line benefits, including increased profitability; higher employee retention, reliability, and loyalty; and improved brand reputation.
Information, support and funding from the Queensland Government are available to help make workplaces more inclusive and accessible.
