Great content Jeremy! I work in traditional banking -wealth management, and can fully attest to what you’re saying. In the transition of going into FinTech so I appreciate your videos on agility and how to interview for a fintech company.
Great work Jeremy. But what is a challenge is whether Fintech is matching banks concerning perks and compensation. It is a great thing I learned. Keep Pushing.
Hi Jeremy, thank you for your input... I am currently deciding between a fintech and a bank, this video made a lot of sense..!! thank you for your wisdom! I agree - working in a bank first gives you an easer transition into fintech later.... so future is still open
This is great Oga Remy... Your stories made my day!!! It would be great to also compare the what the average day / week / month in each environment looks like.
Omg!! I am so glad I found ur channel 😢 I'm very interested in going to. FINTECH and I'm currently doing my Bachelor of Finance. Thanks for the great content. Just subscribed😇😇
Happy you found it useful Tekego, happy to have you onboard. All the best in your course and do let me know if you have any video suggestions that might help you. Cheers
Spot on Jeremy. I recall asking same question on how I should work, the response was “Just work smart “ whatever that meant. I really did not get it until I had to execute a trade on a government paper. Ok so make sure you keep a client regardless but make sure also that the company is winning. I am in the investment banking space.
Hahaha, I know Nii Odai. Sometimes it can feel like you're being asked to run a race with one hand tied behind your back. But eventually you figured it out I'm sure.
@@JeremyQuainoo that’s the thing Jeremy. How in great CAESAR’s name do you even achieve that (run with one hand tied behind you) Like you said, in the financial sector, profitability appears to be the only measure or driver to success. “Bring that business, we just don’t care how you do it, even if we do, we are silent on it”. 🤣🤣🤣🤣To “not a corporate body” who defined it, when, and how did we miss that memo? I think you should thrill us with “Square pegs in round holes”, if you haven’t already. I discovered long before now, that most people are in wrong professions. At the end of the day, economics dictates the pace, bills got to be paid, “sides and mains” got to eat too, therefore whatever keeps us going is okay, just tell no one. Most people I acquaint with are depressed , unhappy and frustrated. In any case, over 86%, myself included, did not know what career path to pursue even after tertiary. Guess what, turns out in the case of many, again, myself in that space, national service is what actually defined what career path to tow. It can be sickening.
Great breakdown of the main pros and cons for those looking to working in the financial services sector - absolutely agree with pace of work / organization & structure of workplace hierarchy commentary. And of course - thanks for the shout-out. You flatter me JQ!
I’ve worked in a bank for 10 years now, and will probably retire here. There are so many career paths you can take in a bank without changing companies. The only perk to leaving is getting a higher salary offer.
Thanks for this great video. I currently work in higher ed but I have a business degree and a data science degree. It would make more sense to do fintech but I think I'm leaning towards the stability of traditional banks. Still much to consider.
Glad the video was helpful. Yes its always a large consideration to make, stability in these times is definitely a reasonable desire. Wishing you the best of luck
Great content Jeremy and thank you for sharing your story with us. Curious as to what your present self will say to 'HR corporate body'? I can also, relate with first name base address, it's exasperating how we love titles 😊
Thank you, glad you like the content. I would suggest that the HR Corporate Body focus more on facilitating a productive environment where people can present their best efforts without being hamstrung by redundant policies. Also ensure complete compliance with existing policies that foster productivity. :)
Amazing stuff Remy. Thanks for sharing your experience in both settings. I will lean towards Fintech any day. And I beg, me you no call me Aunty ooh 😠🤓
I would suggest start by listing some of the fintechs you would want to work for and why. Then look at your current skillset and start applying for roles that you would prefer in those fintechs. That's what I did
Hi Jeremy..just subscribed and loving your content. I would love to know what you studied for you bachelors and if you completed a masters in fintech before securing your dream job
Thanks Obinna, I'm glad you found the content useful. I did a bachelors in banking and finance. My masters degree was a general one on business administration. But I did take multiple certifications that aligned with the role I'm in. Oddly enough nothing explicitly fintech related.
Hello Jeremy! I’m getting my degree in Accountancy, also have degree in Economics. I’ve been working for 10 years in private sector as an Account manager. Not sure if going into trying to get a job in Banking or Fintech . What skills are needed or certifies may help me in both cases? Thank you !
Hello Diego, a lot of the skills required to work in fintech and banking are transferable. Check out these vids for the best courses ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Qy_eYPNp4Pg.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-txR5pOo0VCo.html
Wht degree should I get to enter fintech? I have enrolled in bsc finance..... is it worth for fintech....??Wht certifications should I learn? Is AI course needed for fintech? Which positions earn the most in fintech world?how is the demand for fintech? Will it boom in comiing years?
Thats a loaded series of questions. A bsc finance does give you good grounding for business. Remember that fintech is a combination of finance and technology so its good to have the knowledge. I'd advise that you go through my channel because I answer all your questions in more detail in several videos that do more justice than I can do here. Cheers.
Hello Remy, May I get some insights regarding agile/scrum and it's relevance with the fintech and payments industry ? I am not really sure of the scope of agile in this sector though. Great video btw.
Hi Parag, Agile is very relevant in the fintech and payments industry primarily because in order to compete with the larger traditional players they need to be faster, more efficient and more responsive to the market. Agile provides a framework of working that allows fintechs in the payment industry to quickly iterate and experiment in order to develop and scale products in an effective and efficient manner. Great content and thanks for sharing. I am currently in a traditional multi national Bank, considering a fintech startup, but a bit apprehensive about making the change. In terms of skillset, would I need to be a certified Agile practitioner to work in a fintech or is it enough to pick this up on the job?
Thanks a lot MrOnero, glad you found the content valuable. I would say you don't need to be agile certified to work in fintech. However, it does give you a better CV and helps you on the job although its not a requirement. If you don't already have the certification I would say best to pick it up on the job so it doesn't become a hindrance. Hope that helps.
