I worked on Royal Caribbean ships in 2001-2003... So many great times but remember we don't take pictures of the tough times. Enjoy your time. My advice.... Take it in and enjoy it. Stay loyal to your values, fight for love, and know that leaving cruise life is a challenge because life isn't fun. But don't be afraid of the future....Thanks for sharing.

@@sakurikitty I dont know about countries. I do know the medical staff is usually very small. Even on the largest ships, most likely less than 10 in total. Between the doctors, nurses and other medical staff. It maybe easier to look at more common departments to get started with, and work into medical if thats what you wish.

I did spend a lot of time on ships (different ones: research vessels) and I find a lot similarities. You really get to know someone much better during a month of a cruise than during a year working with them on land. And yes, all kind of relationships. Actually I think there are more of them on ships than in most other work places.

If it fits your vision, it would be really valuable to learn from you about what it’s like to work on a cruise ship while having a partner on/off the ship. Working on a cruise ship is a bucket list item for me, but now I’m married and I can’t fathom choosing to be separated for months. Can spouses stay on board? If not, how do you personally make it work with your boyfriend? I’d love to know your take on this! 😊

Very well documented video about living and working on cruiseships as I worked on ships for about 16 years. I have seen many documentaries of what it is like to work on ships and they created a very negative stigma or a false wonderland. It was really nice that you interviewed crew as well, because they are hardest working and most respectful people that I have worked with in the world. I look forward to seeing more video's from you!!

Also, with regard to pay, you have to remember that the “compensation plan” for a cruise ship employee looks a bit different than it does for a land-based employee, namely that food and housing are factored in as well to some extent. While I may make about $2k per month after deductions, I have to pay for my own housing out of that, whereas that cruise employee making $500 a month has that cost already deducted. Think of it like apartment hunting: one place I looked at in college said $450 a month plus utilities, while another said $750 a month inclusive. But the $750 a month place also covered utilities, bus pass, and came FULLY FURNISHED. The cost trade off was more than worth it, because it meant that was one less thing I had to consider while living there.

(Former cruise line employee) make friends with the shore-ex manager and if you hang out with them in port, it’s usually not a problem to be the last couple people back onboard the ship before it sets sail… they have radio communication with the bridge and security and can let them know that you’re “in line” to get back on the ship with them, and they have to make sure all shore excursions are back before they can board the ship.

Compared to Navy ships, the crew has better quarters and more space than some of the officers. Almost no one has a porthole/window. You also only have to share with one other person. Try sharing a space with 40+ others with less storage space. When it comes to ship crews, you have it better than most.

Working on a Ship, any Ship is lots of work! I was in the Navy, so I worked on a Ship. Remember, a Cruise Ship is a Hotel, and Hospitality is very busy and lots of work. You do travel, but depending on your job abroad, you may not get to leave at port. I looked into working on a Cruise many years ago. I was offered a 6 month contract. Rate of pay was based on what your Job and Experience is. If you’re Single and Young, I found it better. If you have a family, maybe not, you could be away for a while. If you’re claustrophobic, maybe not. The cabins are very small. Thank You Alley for this video, you are amazing 😎👍

I have been working on the cruise ship for two years as a croupier, it was a very good experience, of course it was a challenge to stay 6/8 months living in a tiny cabin with another person. However I strongly recommend to experience the cruise ship life, mostly if you are between 20 to 25 years old, this is my opinion of course. I just subscribed great content.

I worked in the shoreside hq for a cruise company back in 1999-2001. I’ll never forget meeting with the ships doctor when I first started and asked about their biggest challenge. His response was “Its almost impossible to keep condoms in stock.” At the time they gave them out free to crew members. Ran out constantly. Ship/Dorm life, I guess.

Royal Caribbean 15 years ago for restaurants, bars and several others, was clear in the contract "50 dollars" per month and you had to pursue salary by tips, only after some administrative pressure from some form of informal union. A vocal insurance was in place, where you could claim support if you were not reaching a minimum of 1050 dollars a month, which many did not wanted to ask for because they will not offer you the next contract. So if this is still on it is not fair that this is not covered in the video.
