Answering the top 12 Questions I get about working on cruise ships. I might do a Part 2, so leave any questions you have in the comments!
*All thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own and do not necessarily reflect those of the companies
Some Cruise Lines To Look Into (Search their websites for an Employment or Job Listings or Open Positions menu) :
Princess Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International, Disney Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Celebrity Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, ETC.
Or search www.allcruisejobs.com/ for cruise jobs available.
You can also sometimes find cruise recruitment days in or near your city in the local newspaper, or search for Facebook Groups with possible cruise job listings.
TIPS ON SUCCESSFULLY APPLYING :
1. Know what skills are needed for the job you want and get similar experience.
2. Write everything down on your resume, no matter if it relates to the job or not. IF they can't place you in the one you're applying for, they might see if they can put you in a different job onboard.
3. English must be well-spoken, but it greatly helps if you know multiple languages.
4. Familiarize yourself with cruise line recruitment agencies.
5. Be prepared for a video call or an in-person interview and dress professionally. No tattoos visible if you can help it and take out those facial piercings. Appearance and first impressions matter a lot.
6. It may take a few months before you hear back or officially start. Be patient and follow up with any questions or concerns.
7. If you land an interview, make sure to ask a few good questions at the end. They want to know that you've truly thought about everything this unique job opportunity might entail and are curious about knowing more.
8. Showing how positive, friendly, and happy you are during your interview will benefit you. Onboard and with the guests, you must always be "on" (even if you're off), ready to help with a smile, and be willing to tough it out in certain situations (lack of good wifi/service with loved ones back home, time zone changes, etc).

Hey Joy! Love this video!! Thanks so much for sharing...love the info and stories!! I worked many years ago on 2 sister ships in the gift shops, and subbed in as a youth director when needed. We did not have many kids onboard throughout the year, so we really enjoyed when they sailed with us. My favorite thing I had to do one of the weeks I was taking care of the kids (and mind you, this was pre-internet tech) was to have to draw the artwork for the kid's newsletter, submit it to be printed, then distribute them to the cabins. Best thing about it is I have NO artistic skills, so I really had to dig deep and improvise!! But all and all, one of the best times (worked for 8 years!!!

Is it safe as a women to work on a cruise? I’ve applied but my friend says SA are prevalent on cruises
@AJauntWithJoy
@AJauntWithJoy Год назад
Like anywhere, women unfortunately have to be careful and aware of their surroundings as always. You’re surrounded by people from many different countries with different customs and cultures. Some women get fake engagement rings. Don’t give out your cabin number to strangers, and do be alert at the crew bar. It’s the same as visiting bars back home : Watch your drink and be direct with men you’re not interested in. Otherwise, I’ve met some awesome guys that are just friends and looked out for me and my female coworkers and who we knew we could trust!

WHat's the policy regarding LGBTQ members?
@AJauntWithJoy
@AJauntWithJoy 2 года назад
I met a ton of LGBTQ+ Crew members while working onboard! Keep in mind people from all over the world with different religious and cultural upbringing are working onboard and you'll be visiting a lot of different countries so as long as you keep that all in mind and are aware of your safety depending on what country you're in, you should be fine. But maybe find and talk to a crew member that's a part of that community to learn more about their experience!

Or are aloud to bring your partner
@AJauntWithJoy
@AJauntWithJoy Год назад
Only if you worked over 5 years and then you could get limited commission cruises which means you get to cruise and pay only the taxes! And then you can bring your partner or family or friends on those too. Or if you work at a management level or higher - then you can have your family etc onboard with you for a certain amount of time. At least those were the rules a few years ago when I was still working ships!
