ACT1O1 you’ll be waiting a long time

it is ok to buy something with a loan. But you also need to be smart. 1) Dont buy something unless if you lose your job or have other financial problems, you can pay your bills for up to 3 months in advance. That way you have time to at least get some finances together to keep things going. For me, I got a cheap vehicle first, then a year later I had to buy a new vehicle for my new place of living/job, so I bought a nicer but still low cost vehicle and I worked overtime so that I was able to pay off a quarter of the vehicle with the sale of the old one, and pay off the rest in only 5 months. Now I have reduced my work hours from 70 to 50 (so I can save money and still have a decent life. But I am changing to a position that pays 20% more than now. A nice jump. My credit card will be completely clean next month with a 6500 credit limit across 2 cards. Meaning I could survive for at least 6 months if needed for rent and bills alone. I will keep saving money and next year I plan to buy an even nicer vehicle. Selling my current one will allow me to pay around 25% of the new vehicle again. And with my higher pay I will again work hard to keep ahead of the game so I can pay it off in less than a year. (Not working 70 hours anymore lol just 50 hours will do well for the bills) By the way, if you stay ahead of payments by a few months, then if you have a good bank, especially a credit union, they will let you defer payments without penalty for at least 1-3 months depending on various factors. So it is great to do that, at the very least early on in case something happens later. Also, if it is a big loan that you think you might take more than 9 months to pay off, dont be afraid to ask to refinance it once you have paid off half. Again, a good bank/credit union will work with you to lower payments, and you still keep a high pay back monthly, but this will help you in case you have problems later. You may want to work really hard for 3 months, pay a ton down on it, refinance, and then relax, working less from then on knowing you are financially secure by keeping your debt payments low. So to recap 1) Find a credit union, or if necessary, bank that will give you a high credit limit, and work on your credit score per their guidance to keep increasing that. Good for emergency, and cash advances are still lower interest than from any other lending agency, and normal credit charge interest is even far lower. Usually under 15% if you have decent credit. This will help keep you above water in emergencies. 2) Keep cash on hand however you can, enough for 1 months rent on top of your current month, so you have time to breath before even backing up to the card. Learn to sacrifice when you can and dont think bad luck will never happen to you. 3) Refinance when possible and keep debt low, and keep ahead of the payments however you can, even if that means an intense month or more of work, so that you have even more breathing room when needed It is nice to only buy things with cash, but not everybody is that lucky and waiting many years isnt practical and buying a clunker in the mean time can mess with your sanity. I know that I felt so much better when I was able to get the vehicle that allowed me to handle the higher speeds and hills on top of that, with more confidence and safety and just made riding a joy which helped relieve stress of work. Now I have that joy but less work and it will pay off in the future when I want the next better vehicle.

Problem is these old ass pos vehicles break down with severe issues shortly after loan agreement and purchase and they ain't paying say 4k to fix a vehicle that ain't worth that much

The reason is because the vehicle gets refinanced several times. A good friend of mine has to pay off $30,000 on a car worth about $10,000 in fact she is currently hiding the car right now because she is worried the repo process is about to start.

Even under those circumstances that doesn't give them the right to be super hostile, the repoman is just doing his job and has no control over the finance company.

neodecker Good on ya brother. I have also worked security and feel the same way. Sure we have employers that make us trespass other professionals but there are tactful ways to go about it and not lose our jobs or jepardize the security of the property we have been tasked to protect.

A lot of places do not allow for repos to be on their property. I have worked for 3 different security companies at 3 different locations and they all said no repos are to be done on their property at all.

That's why I like to tow trucks that are fully automatic just back in hit the button and the t comes down under the front of the vehicle and lifts it up damn you're good to go

I was reading through for someone to catch this. I am still wondering how the wheel turned. POS

From what I could find, if the vehicle has an electronic or "chip key" the transmission can't be switched out of park while the computer is off. So there's no risk of the vehicle moving under it's own weight without a steering lock.

Actually, Chevy/GMC suvs are trucks and don't require or come with a steering wheel lock... i have had several and none of them have a steering lock. The computer does not unlock the transmission, a switch on the brake pedal does, and they have no chip in the key either. At least not on models older than 2010. They don't even have the vats system which was in 1993 gm cars.

I tow at a car auction in Jersey. Most Chevys/GMCs suvs dont have a steering lock. I find that the pickups like Sierras and Silverados have steering wheel locks.

I had a 97 suburban it had a locking steering wheel, I had a 2004 suburban, again locking steering wheel. I have a 2004 Silverado pickup, again locking steering wheel. I also have a 2016 Silverado pickup and it has a locking steering wheel, so I'm puzzeled by the comments about Chevrolet and GMC not having locking steering wheels.

@@polloloci21 try with Toyota, if its battery is good, the moment you unlock the door, it will lock again. It's a good safety feature, but if you're locked out, you are going to have a fun time trying to open it, did also mention that the wheel locks?

GM steering locks are really weak. You just give the wheel a good yank and it'll free up. Our contract for recovery said we are not responsible in any way for damage. Don't know about how others do it.

Have you tried? Calling BS usually involves knowledge of it. Also possible you don't have the strength required. Ever try towing a car on its front wheels with the steering only locked by the internal mechanism? There's a reason why we immobilize the steering wheel and leave the column unlocked while towing. They break too easy (especially GM). But in a pinch when doing repo I'd intentionally break it if I had to be able to steer it. Hell I've seen people do it accidentally just by using the locked wheel as a handle while trying to shift into a comfortable position in the seat. They aren't terribly robust mechanisms...but maybe I misspoke, if we're going to details...the mechanism will break, and wheel will be free. As to which part actually decides to break probably depends on a lot of things.

Josh Matthews This series denali does not allow for the usual GM/Chevy linkage pop off. I found out the hard was and ended up replacing a 3200 transfer case. You don't see many of these on the road and there are no indicting marks on the outside to let you know. Only way is to get under the vehicle and where the linkage is usually at there is a small electronic box that does the shifting. Would have been 10 times easier and faster had it been the other 99%

+David Henriquez It's absolutely trespassing and completely illegal. In a case like this the property owner is not party to the debtor's agreement with the finance company and they have the right to restrict you from entering their property.

I don't know of any state where you can legally trespass on a third party's property to recover a vehicle without a court order and law enforcement assistance. If you do, I would certainly be interested to learn about it.
