Restoring this old classic Sinclair 8-bit computer from 1980. The machine works, but it needs a modification to get decent video output on the modern TV.
Can it load some games ?

There was a ZX80 at my school, but it had been upgraded to use the ZX81 ROM and had a ZX81 keyboard overlay.

I'm a commodore fan, but I couldn't get my eyes out of your vidéo. The composite mod was very interesting.

In the eightees I didn't even know this computer existed. It was not spread widely on the continent, I guess. So really nice to see how it works and can be enhanced.

The ZX80 was originally held together with plastic pegs, but they were pretty fragile so it's not surprising to see some screws and bolts being used as replacements. 🙂

As a kid I owned a ZX-80 back in the day. I purchased the kit to save money (the kit was $100 and the assembled version was $200) but the kits were so popular that they sent me the assembled version for the same price. I absolutely loved playing around with it. Learned a TON about programming and computers in general. I eventually sold it to a friend and upgraded to a VIC-20.

I had a ZX-81 kit that I built. It worked, but was very annoying to use. I later got a Commodore 64 and I was much happier.

I remember looking at the ZX80 in a electronics shop when I was very young and thinking WOW so small and it was a computer !! Totally blew me away ! Great video, really enjoyed it.

You always regret selling stuff. I regret selling my first C64, my first mobile phone, my first iPhone also :) I never sold my first Amiga.

i think you need to decouple the dc offset of the output with a capacitor.
@Arcticretro

Yes, I think something like that too

Nice video Tommy. That's a better composite image than the one I get on my ZX81.

Excellent Video - How did you fix the video output problem afterwards?
@Arcticretro
@Arcticretro Год назад
I did not do anything. The TV just accepted the signal sometimes. Sometimes not.

Always a very nice video to watch you go through the process. These resistor values work: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T-e69z4R1tA.html. If you test by adding an extra resistor in parallel to a pre-existing one, the resistance can only decrease. Resistors are the opposite of capacitors: in parallel reduces impedance, in series increases impedance.

Thanks for the comment. I still think there is a problem with the sync to my modern TV. I tried a diode on the output, but still problematic
