My father-in-law was a great friend of Scott Anderson of Anderson Surfboards in Cali! He unfortunately lost his battle with cancer a few years ago and is greatly missed in shaping community here. His wife and son now run the shop. Funny how small the world is that I heard that name on a random video I found. Keep up the good work 🤙

its great to see fails on here as well as perfect jobs. what i like about making/fixing boards is that there are so many stages to make errors in, or have errors crop up, but there is normally a fix, so projects can always be saved, one way or another!

Love ya work as always. How does the top layer of glass adhere to the lower layer when painted?
@smallkinedings
@smallkinedings Месяц назад
Good question! You can definitely effect the bond between the two layers of glass if your paint is too thick. The goal is coverage but not filling all the scratches from your prep sanding so that your new resin still has something to hold onto. A fine line. Cheers for watching!
@ashleylegg9885
@ashleylegg9885 Месяц назад
Once again a quality repair! Nice job! I noticed that you didn't use a hair dryer or heat gun to get the track pad off. I have had a really easy time using a hair dryer. it comes off clean and easy with almost no left over residue. Is there a reason you don't use one?
@smallkinedings
@smallkinedings Месяц назад
Yea that’s the standard. Can’t actually remember what happened with this one it was so long ago. It might have been an aftermarket adhesive that the customer used which made the heat gun not work. Some of the boards I take off have super gnarly glues used on them
@suzukiton
@suzukiton Месяц назад
awesome to see it not go to plan and prove you are a mere mortal! btw what colours / shades of paint do you have for old or yellowed boards? always annoying to do a good fix and have a white spot in the middle of a yellowed board. 🤙
@smallkinedings
@smallkinedings Месяц назад
Every now and then it happens, not often though 😝 Yea, as far as Molotow goes. For something like a yellowed firewire a combination of "Vanilla", "cashmere yellow" and "signal white" (# 006, #007, #230) should get you by. For heavily browned/yellowed boards can add "milk coffee transparent" (#248) amd "milk coffee" (#185) to that list.

I'm curious about the type of paint and clear coat you use? Is it acrylic? After the clear coat, are you able to wet sand and polish it without ruining it or is there another prep step?
@smallkinedings
@smallkinedings Месяц назад
It's an acrylic but not a water based acrylic. I use Molotow paints and clear coats. After the clear coat has cured just a case of wet sanding to whatever grit is desired and polish, no extra steps required. 🤙

The big question: what was the determining factor of doing the repair using the broken tail section or removing and duplicating it? As always top notch work.
@smallkinedings
@smallkinedings Месяц назад
Normally it'll come down to how well the break naturally joins back together. If the snap is rough, jagged and full of gaps when you try to push it back into place it's best to just lop it off and start again! Especially when dealing with channels!
