Jonathan Currie lol what. Most guns are steel. If not completely then the barrel absolutely and the slide most likely. Sometimes you get polymer or alloys in guns or aluminum receivers but still a lot of magnetic steel.

While stainless steel can be non magnetic, many stainless steel alloys used in gun barrels and frames are in fact magnetic. Metal detectors or magnets would be a big aid for this work.

It would be cool if they had an app to assist in things like these. If there were some sort of GPS tracking that recorded where you've already searched, and relayed that info back to an app that shows a map of exactly where you've already searched, much like in a video game. Then your searching buddies could also see that map so you don't cover the same ground and can move about more efficiently.

There are SAR apps that can used for things like this if it is a land based search. But GPS doesn't work underwater. There are specific procedures for doing underwater SAR, trained public safety divers will use them.
