Working with Plant and Animal Spirits 

Even as a scientist it had always seemed to obvious to me that things have spirits. Species have personalities!! That is how I learn them. When I don't know a plant or a bird call or fungus etc, I always ask, "who are you?"

This video is legendary. I’ve practiced energy work for a while, and as soon as I acknowledged spirits in objects my childhood plushy spoke out to me. She (my plushy ) was so old, but she told me that being my agent of comfort was the best experience of the past 100 years. Since her spirit was with me through every life that I lived. She permitted me to let go of my childhood traumas. That my upbringing made me but doesn’t have to define me. I am turning 20 this year, and I have completed my mission of letting go of my childhood. I am neither going to be a teen nor a kid and now I can let myself grow. Thank you.

I've been interested in working with animal and plant spirits for a while now. Plants are a big passion of mine, so I figured it would be obvious for me to work with plant spirits. I didn't think I was an animist until I realized that my best crystal results are from the ones I have a relationship with. I'm going to start researching the scientific characteristics of my favorite crystals (crystal structure, origin, formation, etc) and also start studying dandelion, which I've always been fond of 💛

One of my favorite things to do is research animals...I have four parrots, a dog, and a fish tank so I definitely have enough chaotic animal energies in my home for the time being. I do find it fascinating how closely biological studies tie into the animal's spiritual associations though...especially as I learn more and more about the wild birds in my area.

I started out working with spirits of plants/herbs, rocks etc, I'm glad to see people talk about it more

I actually acquired a piece of coyote vertebrae during, what I consider, my dark night of the soul and a time when I felt like I needed more courage and "backbone" to stand up for myself. Coyote has been a great spirit ally ever since! Though I guess I should avoid fussing around with fox for the foreseeable future (say that five times fast) LOVE this topic! 💜

This is so helpful, I just recently started working with the forest I live in! I’m definitely going to research the indigenous people who it was taken from!

Could u talk more about working with Deer someday? Also is it a thing to honor a spirit without asking much of them at all? The most I really do is cleanse and protect and do little things every so often. I’ve got this deer skull + a few other bones from the same body and idk if there’s a spirit attached but I’ve neglected to truly respect it and I wanna fix that even if there isn’t a spirit with it.

I truly enjoyed this video. I personally identify as a full on animal witch. Animals are my path. I‘ve always been a feral child, surrounded by animals and running through the mud on all fours with my shepherds. I grew up and entered the craft not truly finding my spot. Herbs, plants, crystals and everything of that sorts felt unnatural to me in the sense that I had 0 intuition working with them. I had my big „oooooh“ moment when I realised that I‘m ment to work mainly with animal magic. I got so distracted by all the terms that witches use like green witch, hearthwitch and so on but there were no animal witches. in the last two years I fully started calling myself an animal witch and things are great. My intuition is next level. When you mentioned that coyote didn‘t work out for you and then later talked about your connection with fox I had to giggle. Animal magic is so underrated and complex and it is often underestimated. People forget that animals don‘t only bring their folklore with them which varies sevearly from culture to culture and you need to incorperate your own interpretations of their behavior. Each species behaves differently, often subspecies of the same species work differently because of different niche behavior and habitats. It takes a lot of research and intuition. It relly makes you use your instincts in the craft, the same way that animals do. I mostly work with wolf and dog spirits/energy. Dogs are used spiritually and physically (Dog hair etc). My german shepherdsare used in my practice. They ward my home spiritually and physically. It‘s more complicated then „oh dogs are known for their protective aspects so they must have those aspects magically“. Want to make a protection charm? Sure you can use dog in it. But how potent will it be if you use the hair of your neighbors pomeranian that hates you? But the potency that the hair of a guard breed like a german shepherd can have is crazy, especially if you have a good relationship with it and even stronger if it is protection trained. Animal magic is amazing and so complex. People so often take it for granted with the „I used a spell off of the internet to find my animal guide“. Animal spirits need to be nurtured, appreciated and RESPECTED. Don‘t neglect them, give them space on your altar and let them go before you neglect them. Don‘t force them to anything like you mentioned. ASK for their blessing and help. While a dog spirit may be more forgiving to „commanding“ and mistakes, you will only command something like a jaguar once. It‘s also a big think to figure out what spirits can work well together like wolf and raven. Aswell as which ones might not work that well (your example of fox and coyote). I‘ll stop talking now. This topic and magic is so underappreciated. Loved the vid ❤

I came across this video as I was getting ready to cast my first spell using the plants I currently have, and you have opened my eyes to working with them and forming a mutual relationship with them. So now I wanna wait until I have that bond with them before trying to cast a spell.

Thank you for this video! I am going to check out those books, and I'm so interested in researching animism. I've come across the term a few times over the last few days, and didn't know what it was. I always feel there are spirits in the trees, whether I'm hiking in the woods or it's just a tree in yard. I can see things when I take pictures of them and stare at the images. I clicked on this video because I was looking for information on working with animals, particularly cats, and I got so much more!

This freaking blew my mind. Foxes have been involved in my life for years and I always used to call them my spirit animal, even before I was pagan. I always said the two sides of my personality are the fox and the rabbit, they're my yin and yang. Anytimd anything amazing happened in my life, a fox was right there. But when I became a pagan, I started to believe that maybe the fox was a deity trying to reach out to me. Once I got that idea in my head, the Foxes stopped being around as much. I didn't know I could work directly with the spirit of a fox. I'm going to try doing that and maybe my furry little friends will start to reappear again

i would love book recommendations or just a follow up video on this. i have been reading and learning witch craft for at least a year now and i'm not sure but animism has never come up! i feel very drawn to the owl and a couple months back i was sitting outside and one just landed on my porch railing and we had a 'stare off' (lolz) and then it flew away when my husband came. i didn't think anything of it at the time but ur video just made that click all of the sudden and i would love more info or like a part 2 on this subject!

The parrot spirit presented to me in a dream, and I confirmed that he was with me and wanted to work and guide me but I have no clue on what to do, which now I have a few things to start with. As well I realized that I also had 2 more animal spirits as my guides which is mind blowing because I never considered working with animal spirits, but here we are. So much to learn and I feel a bit intimidated lol

This is so funny as this is the way I naturally started working with herbs. I would hold the herbs in my hands and ask what they have to teach me or tell me, then wait for the answers to flood in to write everything down. Surprisingly, the answers I got would usually match up in one way or another to any research I did after. I find myself picking up litter often, and always asking before I take from plants. I also try to give offerings like water or just energy, when they do let me take pieces of them.

I have been interested in working with my ancestors and also animals in my life that have passed away. What is your advice for working with spirits of past pets, or family pets that passed away?

For the working with the land spirits portion what would that be like in an apartment? My complex has people who maintain the grass and pick up trash so I’m not sure how I could start to form the relationship more than research

I love your videos and learning, though if I could make a suggestion with the music? Is there a way to consider lowering it in the future? I don't know about others but I can barely hear and concentrate on what is being said because the bg music makes it hard to hear and is a lot of sensory input that's all on the same (or similar) level.

There is a tree in my backyard that is probably over a hundred years old. When I was going through really hard times in my life I’d always feel connected and comforted by it. It’s very special to me. I had 2 German shepherds before i had to move. My female one that was named Maggie. She was really adorable and I was going into 3rd grade and it was summer and I was sitting on the the stairs, and they were the kind that in the middle had a platform and I heard whimpers and went over and she was giving birth. We noticed that she was getting a little bigger but we thought it was because we gave her too much food, but I sat there with her and helped her because I’m pretty sure i scared her for a second when she was giving birth.

I’m curious about how you know your familiar/more about familiars in general. I’ve always felt really drawn to deer, the only two deities I really felt drawn to are closely associated with deer, and I asked my pendulum if it was a familiar and it said yes but I don’t really know where to go from there? I had a bunch of dreams involving snakes and I've been working with Hekate for a little over a year by now so yeah sure but after one that really felt like a message, I did a reading that basically said "you have shit to learn from snakes" and for a while I was confused because I really didn't know much about animism but now I'm thinking that means it was a call from Snake to work with it I guess ??
