Thanks for this, John! Great point about both being on the same 'Team Couple', really important to get that point across so both Photographer and Videographer have each others back when needed :)

For portraits, I asked the couple ahead of time to split the time in half for photo and video. This way I can get my shots regardless of the photographer's style and personality. If the photographer happen to be a team player and we can get out shots together during the day, I forgo my shared of the divided time and we shoot together for the rest of the session.

Yep that could work too. I just like if both of us are getting good stuff the entire time 👏🏻

Ive found that asking Photogs to not go crazy will ensure constant flash, and blocking your shots all day! Ugh!

Reaching out to the photographer (and vice versa) is a nice idea but realistically it's completely unnecessary for 95% of the time because all those things can be easily hashed out the day of between two professionals. The remaining 5% it maybe makes it difference it probably doesn't because if they needed this phone call to treat you like a human being they probably aren't going to anyway. I always get the photographers info before the wedding, but it's mostly just to check out if they are a candid/natural light photographer (hopefully) vs a staged controlled light photographer.

Agreed for the most part. Full disclosure I don't reach out to every single photographer. But, there was a time there, especially when I was getting going, that every photographer was not professional. And this video is geared at people giving them ideas on how to work better with photographers. So if people are having issues, these are things they should try to do. I didn't want to have a video about working with photographers and not mention that you should reach out beforehand if you were feeling the need.

That's reasonable. Thanks for the reply.

I shot a wedding this weekend, and I almost smacked the photographer. She was so invasive and outright a pain the neck.
