This video is a treasure because this is not only applicable to Marshall amps EQs but for pedals and other stuff that have a PASSIVE eq system. You take out the highs and you get more mids, you level up the highs and the mids and the lows goes down. Very different that an active eq system.

@partyxplays
@partyxplays Год назад
@@anthonyvaccari4607 it's mainly good for beginners learning the guitar and wanting a quick and easy Marshall sound in a studio. Although for gigs and live I'd probably get a DSL or something with a bit more volume. With that though I love the amp and it has a lot of versatility and it's great for blues, jazz and classic rock. If you have single coil guitars it's also good for crunchy and clean tones. If you have a humbuckers guitar it's great for hard rock and classic metal sounds. Hope that helps :)

I've never known quite what all of these knobs mean, but as far as sound goes I seem to like the treble and gains really high, the mids as low as possible while having the bass at maybe 1/3rd the way or maybe half way. I just love the sharp, cutting sound it produces. It's thrashy and crunchy and tremolo picking and pinch harmonics sound better to my ear that way as well.
@rebeccabailey527
@rebeccabailey527 2 года назад
Well then, allow me to educate you a little. The each of the eq controls cover a large section of the frequency spectrum, the guitar happens to live in the mid range section of the frequency spectrum, not the bass end or the treble end. By turning the mids down, you're reducing the body of the guitar's frequencies. It's like having a blind spot in your vision. Now playing in a band with those settings will result in your guitar being nearly inaudible. Turning up the mids will put you in the correct part of the frequency, and sound thicker, and give the guitar a big boost in perceived volume. There is such a thing as having too much too, too much treble results in a thinner buzzy tone, too much bass makes your guitar boomy, too much gain reduces clarity, to the point you can't tell what you're playing or even the kind of guitar and pickups and all that.

My struggle is that everything plays off each other so you can't really individually set something. Say B and T are 12, and i decide that in this point the sweet spot for M is 3. But now say when i change T around to find the sweet spot suddenly the M is no longer in the sweet spot now. It was only the sweet spot when the other two were 12 but thats not "my sound"

Hi Corey, i’m a little late but if you still have these problems I would advise bringing your M back up to 12 and then changing the T around to find the sweet spot of the T while the M and B are at 12 so that way you can individually set all three eq settings and once you are happy w your B and T then just bring your M back to 3.

using words like richer, warmer, brighter....to explain tone is far too subjective to what a persons own identification to those labels are. warmer to some might actually be thought of as muddy. Brighter to me on guitar means spanky or quacky, if its too much. all those are, is words for marketing, not your own ears. My preference seems to be treble at 1 oclock, mids at 10 o clock bass at 2 or lil higher on dsl401 od2 channel with 2018 explorer elite and 2015 LP studio. Any good suggestions for improving that, not that its not good, just could it be better? for just the eq part anyway, the rest of my tone from after that is not what im asking. just those 3 eq settings what do u use. i play hard rock not thrash, or grunge. - rhoads influenced madman over blizzard

?Do you increase the low frequency by turning the Bass knob all the way to the right, or do you not cut it anymore. These are passive controls, everything wide open is what the Amp sounds like, and you cut where you think you need. There are a Million variations and turning them all down a little will give you a different sound, a muffled Marshall Sound. This is Marshall, are they passive Potentiometers.

The Presence control isn't part of the Bass/Middle/Treble "tone stack" but works off the negative feedback loop in your tube amps power section; it controls the very high frequencies and adds more sizzle in the distortion.
@nafis6668
@nafis6668 2 года назад
Presence also acting as tilt EQ, reducing low mids while shelving the mids and highs while adding some distortion to the sound. For bright and smooth distortion, try set the treble lower and the presence higher. This will reduce the upper mids hashness while making overall tone musically brighter and clearer.
