Now, black rigs look the best for a frock coat suit. However, I think mahogany rigs look beautiful, especially compared to all of the other shades of brown. Personally I think with black leather you loose all the character of the leather, but people seems to like it. It’s my understanding the only black holsters & belts etc back in the 1800s were military issue, civilian gun leather made by the saddle makers would have been natural leather oiled with olive oil, over time with use and the elements it would darken. 1 1/2” is a standard size buckle for a belt, the type of buckle depends what style of belt your making.
