In this episode, Dan works on blending the half edging into the original wood on the front and the back. Once the half edging and the varnishing have been completed, you will not be able to tell that any work has been done.
Some sections of the edge work will be rebuilt; blending the half edging to where it needs to be is the start of this process.
On the back, a couple of corners needed replacing due to being worn away over the years or damaged. Dan has built up a new piece of wood, laid on top of the half edging and then begins to shape it. We use spruce to half-edge the front and whichever hardwood the back is made of to repair that.
You will notice that when we shape the corner, we do not make it perfectly back to the original shape; we blend it in so that it matches the other corners which have worn over the years.
