I did a road trip in 2018 through the exact same route to Lhasa. Road condition was pretty good, all paved road, towns along the road provided good supply. Biggest challenge is both vehicles and drivers suffering oxygen shortage due to rapid altitude climbing. I experienced headache all the way as long as altitude over 5000meters. Gorgeous scenery, and extremely long trips, some hazards from falling rocks, you meet people from everywhere took one month off just to experience Himalayas. Locals are way richer than i expected, making good money from ranching. I would definitely travel again.
these fools are making idols but how will these idols help the uneducated peoples when these idols can't even save themselves. How foolish are these tibetans that's why they are still under chinese rule.

This road was once called Death Road, but it has been improved greatly, it is not that dangerous any more. This road is one the most beautiful roads in the world, I really don't think the film captured its beauty even thr thrill moments when you are through a mountain pass or a landslips section. I have traveled both south and north routes of this 318 roads, it gave me memories that will stay with me with all my life.
Some new shortcuts and tunnels has been built since this documentary is made, the 318 route is much safer nowadays. Much gratitudes to this document and the crew, it's always important to remember the hard work of every common people that contributed to our better and better lives.
Yes the Biden/Harris communists here in the States are spending six trillion, but we aren't seeing any betterment in our lives. Maybe after Beijing takes full control ennhh ?
@@deconteesawyer5758 It seems you don't understand the concept of "communism" as you're just putting that term wherever you feel like it. How fast do you expect an infrastructure plan effects to take place ? Please use some logic.
I suppose why they’re not wearing seatbelts is because they’re pretty much useless on a road like that. Probably smarter not to wear them just in case the truck starts heading for the edge it’s quicker to jump out if possible 🤔
@@zheyuxiang5596 or stupidly leaving your driver-side door open or driving on the wrong side of the road around bends. The way these folks drive seem to cause most of the problems.
I have learned more about world history from FD than College I have been around the world in my comfy chair in my comfy house and have realized how many beautiful, hard working ,resilient people are in the world.I absolutely don't take mine for granted since watching
another free ticket to China ... Where should be my next destination? ... watching from Philippines ... Keep it up ....More Dangerous roads to come ...
Another pragmatic approach on the road revealed the pros and cons of trucks, cars, motorbikes, cycles and drivers.Leh Ladakh and Spiti of India is overwhelmed by this Tibeatean culture, so its beautiful.Still I remember when I drove Higher Himalayan mountains Rohtang,Zozillla pass and Leh in Ladakh. Some of my students from Kampa family.Thank you this is the Nostalgic moment.

You are supposed to use gears to slow down on trucks. He wasn't experienced enough and relied completely on brakes. If you do they WILL fail. ALL good truck drivers KNOW this. There's too much weight to rely on brakes alone. If in Oz he would be sacked for incompetence.

Drove this road twice in the same family car, the first time in 2010 and the second in 2019. Over the years it had been vastly improved which was so evident in the trip of 2019. As I remember there was only some 60km of road works as of June 2019. It could hardly be called dangerous compared with the same road in 2010.

drone footage of valeys, and streams is breathtaking. China nature is magical. I am also surprised the amount of investment everywhere in the Tibet. Thank you for your document.
@@gg.youlubeatube6249 Their job might change from doing the long-distance hauling to transporting the cargo between towns and the railway by then. The market is generally good at adjusting
That’s true, when the economy is vibrant, many jobs will be created. But I think most of the drivers will be retired when the railroad is completed. I think it’s high speed trains and the railway go mainly on tunnels and bridges, not easy construction.
They don't create the documentary: they purchase it from the actual producers thus if none have been produced there are non for them to purchase and showcase on their channel
A railway is under construction along this route. Two sections from two ends opened already. This will the most difficult railway in the world. There will be some very long tunnels and high bridges. Some tunnels are more than 50 kms.
Actually not so much, both the construction company and the boring machine company are stated owned, which means owned by the people, we invest it, we buildit, we benefit from it. Since this railway is the most difficult one in the world, it still has a few years to go, the good news is that 543km of it is in use out of the 1858km in total.
Are you a child of the Tibetan exiles? Maybe you should visit your ancestors land and if you like it you might allowed to stay permanently. Of course it's your choice

I like this episode. I am a Filipino and i have been to Llhasa coming from Nepal. Next time i hope i can go see this other side from Llhasa to China. The landscape is amazing. I got the same feelings as the other people who commented on these travel videos. LIVE AND NOT FAKE.
The internet has certainly opened a window into the world, this is how I travel and I have a wonderful time getting to know how others live. I see the hardships that others face and it humbles me, I see what people eat around the world and it leads me to search for recipes. Oftentimes I cry when I see the poverty or man's inhumanity to man and I pray for better times. I say thank you to those that travel and bring us these documentaries.
@@shaungaming7531 They never show the good roads. They only show the mud and dirt tracks cause those are the dangerous ones. If you look on top gear's trip in Africa, there are amazing highways there by the Chinese.
I am waiting for a new documentary and finally here it comes, let's start watching 👍,no other can compete with this channel, it's the best of the best ❤️
Hi, friends! I began to feel closer to people who always watch this documentary.. We can stayed connected even though we are from different countries. God bless free documentary channel.
The Dangerous roads series of documentaries has been a real eye-opener on the levels of poverty that far too many people live with. They should be mandatory viewing for the people who cry because Daddy bought them the wrong colour of car for their 18th birthday. They have also been an interesting window into parts of the world that are not on the regular documentary makers' watch list. Thank you for making these available.
@@afunguynamedkawhi7959 Check the others as in Somaliland, Bolivia, etc... I agree there is much less 'poverty' in this episode. These Chinese people very impressive in many ways.

FD is the best among all the documentary series and thank you for bringing it every sunday because it makes my Sunday even much more interesting.....✌👍
I've been fascinated by dangerous and long roads like this from a long time been. Watching each episode of this channel makes me want to leave right now and start right now.
I am now officially an addict of these dangerous roads documentaries! It all started with a short clip I chanced on recently on Facebook - of a Burundian cyclist cruising down the highway with a 200kg load of bananas. I was fascinated. So I immediately went into a hot pursuit of the original/full footage, which landed me on this awesome channel here on RU-vid. Since then, which is only a couple of days now FYI, I have never looked back. I am binging on these thrilling and at the same time eye-opening real-life stories. I also draw many lessons from them: Mostly of how fortunate I am and how grateful I should be to be living a fairly better life than that of many people out there. It hits my heart very differently (sob). God bless all the people out there who go through a lot of struggle to make ends meet. And, loads of respect to the entire Free Documentary production crew (including the researchers, script writers, editors, camera crew, THE narrator - what's his name, by the way? - and of course plus each and every person who features on the show that is willing to let us in on their respective lives). It is indeed TEAM WORK! Many thanks and please keep producing more of these.
Can't explain how great full I'm to Free documentary for bringing this episode...I really wanted to see this part china properly and was researching about it and suddenly I found this video... thank you
Have been watching your series for a few days, incredible job 👏. I really feel sorry for hardworking, struggling poor people 😞, for instance Sudan, Madagascar, Liberia etc. And there are many countries. These series should be shown to rich people who have mansions for 100 million and up, 1 mansion could save thousands of lives.

love watching documentaries on this channel because it is free of advertisements. It has been a long time since I could watch a long video on RU-vid smoothly without annoying ads.
I've ridden G318 road to Litang County highway S217. Sadly without special permits and an accompanied guide foreigners are not permitted much further beyond that intersection. If Covid restrictions ever end I hope to get back to China and complete the trip through Tibet. The producers don't mention the reason the trucks have to stop for water is the trucks have a water sprayer on the axels to cool the bearings in their overweight trucks. There is now a toll road covering the first section and biggest climb of the trip.
Is this even a dangerous road? This is one of the best road at this elevation. This road is drivable even by amatures. This is the best road at this elevation compared to roads of Nepal,India and Pakistan.Himalayan truckers from these countries would drive with ease and comfort at this highway. If Chinese considers this to be dangerous highway let them try to drive at himalayan roads of Nepal.
@@Ninety-Nine A lots of short cuts and tunnel have been completed since, most trucker now use those, traffic jam were less often and leaving the older paths easier for armatures(but not safer because rock falls and landslides)
Hear, hear...in October of 1999, right after the monsoon season, I went into Tibet by crossing the Friendship Bridge, then through the Nomads with single land dirt road, raining, and with the possibility of landslides, then, forced to stop and wait for the road to be cleared from the landslides...I was just so happy I got to the boarder of Tibet in one piece physically. This road seems to be full of "dangerous" drivers for commerce purposes.
This video was made about 10 years ago, now this 318 road is way more better than before. No doubt it's the best road in this series even in that time, well constructed and maintained. China has the No.1 infrastructure abilities on the world, that's why they could build the beautiful roads in the most dangerous area.
@@punns643 if you really visit there you will understand what I say. There are 55 different minorities cultures, Even among Han ethnic groups each small town share something different local culture. Culture for me mean different cuisine, different costume, customs, languages and dialects, heritage and history, beliefs and habit, architecture.
Few years later, the 318 high way is much better now. Most of these high passes are instead of tunnel now. Driving on this road is definitely a pleasure except for national holidays. You can see countless magnificent scenery on this road. This road is the pilgrimage for outdoor enthusiastists such as hiking, cycling and offroad driving. You might meet people who use their unique way to finish their tour like hiking, DIY trolley, even skateboarding, rollerblading. I've encountered a blind guy guided by his friends.

I believe it will never cease to amaze me the resourcefulness and ingenuity of people who come from an ancient culture in dealing with modern situations. It becomes apparent in watching these videos that the old and the new are commingling in a very productive manner. I always had two or three vehicles to include trucks, cars, and motorcycles. As such there have been times when I've traveled close to 70 or 80,000 miles in one year. However watching the many vehicles that travel these roads going through the mountains and passes, I applaud you all from bicycle riders to car and truck and semi drivers as well. Stay safe drive carefully and God BLESS YOU ONE AND ALLLLLLLLL!!!
i feel like im watching The Untamed -mountain scene ) coz some drone shots are same on the drama, those valleys and mountain are super amazing views. ..China nature are d best
Have driven on the other side of the Himalayas in India to a height of 4000 meters and 5000 meters. It is a bloody tough job. Though it was a car not a truck. I feel for these guys. Thnx for uploading this nice video...
Thing is, someone has to do it regardless of the risk. I have great respect for any truck driver that has to haul loads up through those mountains everyday.
One of my favorite channels for real life in other countries! It's always been a dream to travel and just hangout with locals and learn others cultures! Keep up the great videos and content!

These are my favorite documentaries together with dangerous journeys, I love when it's a ride along with the truck driver or something like that! I have already watched everyone of these in about a week! Also, do you share these documentaries together with "best documentary" channel? Because I've noticed they upload the same documentaries.
Thank you free documentary for giving such a content. I always wanted to see China specially Tibetan region through your lense. I loved this episode because of its simplicity, I can obtain information, I can put myself into the situations in every obstacle which they fell during the entire trip.
I like watching these documentaries from around the world places that I'll never see in person in my life time, thanks for taking along on these dangerous roads.
