That might be because Acrobatic Gymnastics is still not an Olympic sport. Eventhough a lot of other gymnastic disciplines are like trampoline and artistic gymnastics.
@fairy wishes There's always one. 🙄 To compete at senior level they have to be over 14. Most gymnasts retire early 20s. In these cases, the relationships are like brother-sister. We've all been training together since we were very young. This is called mixed pairs. It requires specific body types. Look for women's pairs, men's pairs, women's groups, & men's groups for the different disciplines. One of my favourite comps is here. This is what I did, competed for my country in the early 2000s. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TRm6oAlJzhI.html
@@rozemarijnbalemans4561 It SHOULD be an Olympic sport!! FIG screwed IFSA back in 2000 with a promise of the Olympics, then decided acro would only become an Olympic sport if another gymnastics discipline dropped out. Like there's not enough swimming, athletics, watersports etc. And nobody is going to stop watching artistic because acro ALSO becomes an Olympic sport. All politics. Been happening since I was competing internationally - 20 years ago.🤬
I recommend this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TRm6oAlJzhI.html It's one of my favourite finals. I was a base in women's groups. Sports Acrobatics is a fantastic sport.
We used to joke that we'd compete at the top level, doing all this stuff and then fall off the floor. Except it wasn't really a joke... The floor is always raised. Practically every gymnast (or acrobat) I ever knew literally fell on or off the floor at one point. I think it's because you stop paying attention once the music stops. ;'D
@@gmun2248 I've rolled my ankle tons of times in the gym. Mostly walking off the floor, getting off the tramp or walking to the drinking fountain. We concentrate so much when we do skills and then are totally distracted when just walking.
I've never seen this type of acrobatic routine ... couples..... what an interesting mix of acrobatics, dance that appears to be a mix of classical, ballet, figure skating, at least to me that's how I perceive it..... this routine was impressive.... flawless!
It's called Sports Acrobatics. 5 disciplines: Men's Pairs Women's Pairs Mixed Pairs Women's groups (trios) Men's groups (fours). It's a fantastic sport. Absolutely recommend checking out these finals: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TRm6oAlJzhI.html (I have Women's groups saved bc that's what I did. There should be links to the others on that channel, from that competition. )
Absolutely fascinating to watch. Have never seen this before. At times some of the moves were, at loss for words. He handled her like a stuffed doll & I mean this with respect. She’s beyond flexible. 👏👏👏
It used to be called dazio dancing.. I may not be spelling it correctly but back in the 30s and 40s and maybe even the 20s this was a very common dance of acrobatics and was sometimes performed in little cafe's and nightclubs in Europe long before it became an art form on the level that it is now; a combination of jitterbug and acrobatics. It's amazing how long certain things have been done and are now considered so "new!" This couple were really good!
Adagio dancing was on display in the early 1930's movie "Bolero" starring Carole Lombard. Possibly the inspiration for Torville & Dean's Olympic performance to Ravel's "Bolero." Watch both. You decide.
It's now Acro Gymnastics/ Sports Acro. It is a member of FIG(international gymnastics federation), but they won't make it an Olympic sport unless another Gymnastics discipline drops out. Been playing politics since I was competing 20 years ago, it's BS. It's a wonderful sport to watch. I used to do this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TRm6oAlJzhI.html
Not my usual RU-vid feed BUT truly outstandingly riveting. The trust and strength these two show with each other in their movements is really hearteningly Beautiful. Bravo!
I find the Olympics boring but this is crazy wonderful. We should have this level in the Olympics. Love this. Wonderful achievement for this young couple.
It should be in the Olympics. It's been trying since 2000. Artistic (beam, bars, vault etc.) asically rules. The gymnastics Olympics committee ruled Acro can't become an Olympic sport unless another gymnastics discipline drops out. As if people wouldn't enjoy MORE gymnastics. I used to do this. It's a fantastic, intensive, sport. Women's groups: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TRm6oAlJzhI.html
I was thinking the same thing. We have so many different sports, and they add different ones all the time. This is a sport and incredibly difficult one. You have to be flexible, strong, and talented to be able to do this.
@@elephantsradorable7689 One reason (of MANY!) I really wish acro had gone more mainstream is because it has more options for all body sizes. It's actually surprising to me that STILL, that hasn't given it the last nudge into the public eye & created more support for it. When I coached artistic, I had 10 year olds beginning to grow who were supposed to wear elastic waistbands over their leotards at training to 'make them conscious of their abs & posture' - i.e. to make them aware they had a bit of puppy fat and it wasn't acceptable. If they started to develop at an early age, they did have a future in the sport as elite gymnasts - and they knew this at 10, 11, 12. It's AWFUL. When I competed at national level, it was in acro. If a 10 year old started showing signs she (or he) was going to grow 'too big' (per artistic standards), they'd simply be given different partners - maybe start training early as a base, or as a middle for a trio. That applied to every body shape from the beginning - mixed pairs tops tend to be a bit taller & very slim. Trio bases & middles 'stocky' - by gymnastics standards (as an older teen, I was about a size 4, 115ish-lbs & solid muscle (5'1). 'Stocky'. Definitely not artistic size. Also not the build of a top, but that was never a 'thing'.) Acro doesn't work without every body type. With men, smaller, skinnier built guys work better in a men's group (of 4) or the top of a men's pair - although shorter & stockier is more typical. Women's pairs do all the same kind of moves in this video too - for a girl who loves gymnastics, but is 'too big', she makes an AMAZING WP base. There's no body shaming, no weighing in gyms (yup, they do that) - everyone has their ideal position. And (almost) any shape or size can train hard, build (SOLID) muscle and develop skills. Then, there are people who never make it to elite levels - in artistic, there isn't really anywhere to go; in acro, some people have limits, they know it - especially as they get older - but love the sport. Coaches tend to 'use them' as bases to bring on new tops from lower levels, work with them for a few years and then, depending how the top develops (skill & shape), they move on, the cycle starts over. Everyone gets to stay involved, and it's definitely one hell of a workout. I'll get off my soapbox now, but having been in both worlds, I WISH more people would talk about that aspect of it. (And for anyone interested, there are acro clubs all over the US. If you're moving away from artistic, but still want to compete and stay in the sport, this is an option.) 🙃
This reminds me of the first time I saw Michael Jordan defy gravity while dunking a basketball. The two of them completely rewrote the laws of physics here. Unbelievably freaking BREATHTAKING 🔥😍🔥
Some of this I had never seen before. They are precise. Something like staccato yet the movements of their bodies are fluid like they flow into and out of each other. Sometimes they are one. Brilliant. Nice to see the many words of this stunning performance
Love IT!!! Absolutely beautiful!!! Reminds me of ballet and gymnastics; the best of both worlds. Hope to see this on tv during the ‘26 Summer Olympic Games
I am old and it STILL amazes me that we are referred to as the “weaker sex”….. every sport with pairs, the female does all the magical events and hard work!
The flexibility and the grace are beautiful. 🥰 The strength and support come from the "stronger sex" showcasing the beauty. A nice pair. Whose to say which is "weaker"? Depends on the standards applied.
The girl's amazing but I hand it to The guy - you have to be so strong and in sync with ur partner to support her like that. He also seems to have the tricky task of making eyes with the audience but also paying attention to his partner. The girl probably has to do that a little but not as much? I don't know but i'm sure it requires a lot of practice and trust in ur partner.
You mean his tumbling run (a roundoff, flick, tuck). He's the base. His 'acrobatics' are the lifts, throws, catches, tosses, helicopters, pitch-to-hands etc. They started off where he pitched her overhead into a double, caught her on his thighs and then threw her back overhead into another double. THAT is acrobatics. It's a big move, high difficulty, & showed his exquisite skill from the beginning. Check out tumbling too - 50m track, guys throwing quadruples now. You may also enjoy watching double mini tramp Europeans.
how long has this been a thing? i've never heard of it and i love gymnastics dancing and ice skating this is sort of the first two combined how have i not heard of this?
If you read some of the older comments someone talks about how it was a thing in the 1920’s and 1930’s and was called Adazio. It was performed usually as a part of a traveling Cabaret. It has remained popular but mostly out of the limelight. Truly spectacular I agree!
I competed for my country in the late 1990s. Sports Acro used to be its own sporting body (IFSA), then it joined FIG (federation of international Gymnastics) around 2000, as a move towards the Olympics. FIG& the Gymnastics Olympics committee ruled that acro will not be admitted to the Olympics unless another gymnastics discipline drops out. Basically... politics. Searching Acro World Cup, World Championships and European Finals (/maybe Championships?) plus Acro Worlds will tip you down a wonderful RU-vid rabbit hole. I used to do this. I think it's a good comp to start with: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TRm6oAlJzhI.html
Formidabili!!¡ Ma non esiste questa disciplina alle olimpiadi? Non ricordo di averla mai vista. Spero che venga inserita. Veramente stupendi questi atleti, complimenti!!!
Amazing lifts! He looks like a grown man and she looks like a little girl. That's the only thing thst seemed off to me. Obviously, when tossing a human being in the air, she must be light. But is this much difference between partners normal in this category??
I'd like to see this in the Olympics---tired of the same old boring stuff for years on end. Time to switch things up with some other new competitive sports.
Beautiful routine. She just seems a bit too young or bodily immature to match him. Just think a stronger, more defined girl/ woman would have .... oh ... 👏 👏 👏 bravo anyway
Never heard of this. But they are really good. Either she weighs 2lbs or he has the muscles of Samson. If that were me, I would have dropped her 4 x by now
