World Aids Day: 'I watched my partner and friends die'

It was a disease that changed the world - and 40 years ago this December, the first Aids-related death was reported in the UK in London. Before life-saving treatments arrived, it went on to claim thousands of lives, many of them young gay men. In this special report we speak to some of those who lived through that time.

I remember that period of time. I remember the hysteria. My mother lost many friends from AIDS. The meds are a miracle. HIV doesn't have to be a death sentence now. People live long, productive lives.

Rupert was 18 when e met Terry. They were a couple very much in love but this was 1981. Terry didn't even know he was sick
