Di Haggerty's presentation from the Natural Intelligence Farming Field Day put together by Nutrisoil, Jane Slatery & The Haggerty's
Natural intelligence farming can be described as Integrating nature’s intuitive wisdom and biodiversity with food, fibre & beverage production. Or in other words, rather than constantly dictating and trying to control nature, participating in nature's intricate systems with gratitude and awe. Natural Intelligence farming has been described by esteemed author Charles Massy as a world breakthrough regenerative farming operation.

The main takeaway I heard was Diane is grateful. That is so empowering.

A lot of hard work and a lot of brains behind this success!! So grateful to Di and Ian for showing this is not only possible but profitable.

I find what they done and the results they got to be much more interesting than the science talk. To me the real world results they got and what they done to get it is more interesting than the talk about nitrogen and gut biom. And I'm glad they got good results and hope they keep getting good results. Seems like some small scale farmers are starting to get into Regenerative Farming here in the USA as well.

Absolutely awesome....this is regenerative practices that we first heard about in New Zealand in the late 1970s ....it's great to see this becoming a reality 👏 👍

15:00 there's been studies done on animals where they will put out conventionally grown foods and organic/natural farmed foods and they are usually picking the latter. Pretty amazing! Your statement, while maybe not backed by specific science (yet!), has been replicated many times and carries so much more weight than we may realize now. I'm sure we will find out just why you're inclination is so right, soon enough! Especially with microbial studies just absolutely taking off as of lately, between NASA studying them to grow with in space, to the average gardener using microbial inoculations.... it's happening more now than ever!

For our U.S. friends the soil in the wheat belt can be quite sandy, so lots of fertilisers are usually used to gain a good crop, there are parts that have a red soil, but again its usually a poor soil, farming techniques have changed a lot in Western Australia, lots of farmers dont plough the land and most have stopped burning off the crop stubble, another issue with the soil is it can be highly hydrophobic. Its only just become Spring here and already the pass two days have been in the mid 30'sC ( 95F), Summer temps are in the mid to high 40's C. ( 110F to 120 F )

Until last year over production of wheat made a record low wheat planting. Hope your regenerative agriculture will keep the prices up. When Ukraine starts farming again, US Farmers will have to produce wheat below the cost to grow it.

what a video! Non-farmer here. But how do the sheep know to do 'toileting' on the bare, compacted dirt?

Dianne Haggerty said that the sheep have their nose to the ground and can probably smell the difference from the microbes in the degraded soils. Many years ago I worked at a feedlot with about 2000 animals on feed and I was responsible to make sure that the feed bunks had feed. We would feed 2 times a day and I had a notepad that I kept track of how much feed to mix up per animal per pen. You didn't want them to run out of feed because that can cause acidosis in the rumen, but in winter you didn't want a great excess that would freeze in the minus 30-35F weather. It was a bit of a balancing act. The owner came to me and asked me about a number of pens that had cleaned up the feed run of corn barley silage. I took out the note book and said that all the pens were on an increasing amount per feeding and I couldn't seem to match what they required from say 5 days ago. He said a winter storm is coming. He and the cattle were right. The cattle about 3 days before the storm would start to gorge themselves and the morning before the storm they only ate about 3/4 of what was put out. Had to hand shovel about 9 tons of silage as waste so it would freeze to the concrete feeders. Animals know things that we humans don't perceive. And we think we are the smart ones?
