World gravel champ with not a speck of mud, or dust etc.... complete waste of a rainbow jacket. Unbound is 100% what gravel should be

The organisers can't do anything about the weather - if it was raining (as it would normally be around this time of year in Northern Europe) there would have been mud. The course was 60% gravel roads. I'm sorry if gravel surfaces in Europe are different than the US. Guess what - all the best riders and races in cycling are in Europe. Maybe they should have spent £100 million on adding more depth of gravel to the 181km course just to please the haters in the US? Maybe you could have your own 'world championships' just for the US, as you do in other sports?

@@frankling9840mud is no gravel. Wherever those first 5 would race, they would win from any unbound winner. Simple as that.

@@frankling9840 I'm from Belgium and it has already rained enough the last year. September was the 12 consecutive month with above-average rainfall in Belgium. You have to go back to 1833 to do 'better'. And the average is a bit above the worlds average. They could also rename the discipline to something else than grave, if it is not accurate enough in all cases.

No it hasn’t. This had around 60% gravel, strade is far from that. I know guys who flatted 3 times. Big rocks on some stretches. But you must have done the parcours to call it a joke?

Most Americans don’t care about cycling. It’s niche. In Europe gravel/CX are well attended events. People turn out in their thousands for nighttime CX races on midwinter.

I agree the course was too tame to be called gravel but mvdp is a monster off road lol. If anything id say hes even more likely to win offroad.

He is the best xc rider in the world and history of the world. He qualified by being top 10 or top 20 in other uci rankings (road, and cx, mtb also could be but he isn't high enough there at the moment)

Why you should no be qualifyed... When he can win.. crazy logic to secure Titels sou second best Guys. Gravel moves to Big Business, destroys community dreams...

Have you never watch MVDP race cyclocross? He’s been running through mud carrying his bike since he was a kid. He’s 6x World CX champion. He’s raced in snow and ice, rain and mud… you clearly have no idea what you’re taking about when it comes to his ability on all types of terrain.

@@Liofa73 yes, he’s doing it for 60 odd minutes at the time and has a pit stop in the middle of the course with freshly hosed down bike waiting for him. And, just btw, I also saw him almost breaking his back at the Tokyo Olympic XC race, so…he’s not invincible or immune to a bad fall. I’m not saying he wouldn’t be a contender, I’m just saying that a race like Unbound is a different animal. Moot point, though. Until he’s done with his proper career, he’s not going to jeopardize his seasons by riding these sort of events. Not even for fun, never mind racing for victory.

I just said that by the logic of mvdp showing up and any racing being pointless (like the opening poster said), any race would be pointless, simply because mvdp would win all the time. I just literally said mvdp would win wherever he shows up, but you totally misread that. I've seen him live in action since he's 16 and you don't have to tell me what the guy is worth on a bike. I know better than you.

Mvdp destroys pidcock in any cx race. It makes no sense for him to risk it in mtb after his back injury in Tokyo Olympics, but if he did like pidcock (getting more and more useless in road cycling and spending too much time on the mtb, he would easily have won the Paris Olympics.
