A lot of that is compared with chess. Difference is that people that don't play checkers can't see it. Well on the other hand a queen winning sacrifice sends the crowd wild
@@christophermatthew7635 lol i don't play checkers and i saw it. In chess, even if you are a GM, you tend to miss a lot of moves compared to checkers even if both of you have less piece. I can think of reasons why chess is better, but yeah that is one example.
Before you go down and rant about it, this is international checkers and in international checkers you must capture if you can and YES you can capture backwards.
For people not familiar with this game: It's called International Draughts, the rules are different to those of American Checkers and you play it on a larger board.
Why? It’s a super normal handshake that literally everyone does when they finish/resign a game. Not even just in checkers but across all similar board game competitions. It would be MORE odd if they DIDN’T do the handshake.
@@justsomesleapydudeonacouch4524 In draughts you can capture backward, and the kings have unlimited range to attack, so there are incredible jump combinations that would be impossible in checkers.
@@Sheilawisz also, the king in international can slide like a Bishop, as opposed to the checkers king, which can only move one step in any diagonal direction
@@HoangLong-vj6dm Hello! I don't know, sorry, in some countries like Holland it would be easy to find, normally I advice people to make their own boards, that's what I do.
7:42 Nice move! I’m enjoying your videos. I’m still learning this game. When watching, I try to expect every move before it is done to improve my skills.
Why are people surprised about different rules in Checkers? Even in Basketball, FIBA rules are slightly different from NBA rules. Rule indifference is a common thing especially when an athlete / player is participating in a global competitive tournament.
You don’t have Kings at you’re school? You’re telling me when a piece gets to the end of the board it’s just stuck there? What game are you playing because it’s not checkers
@@jjhood6155 In portugal or at least on my region we put a piece on top of the one that reaches the other side and that new piece can go forward and back in every diagonal, and can capture backwards too the thing is that here a normal piece capture a normal piece moving backwards so i didnt understand, maybe the rules are different ???
There are different rules. In classical checkers, I think, you can't go backwards unless that specific piece already got to the other extreme of the board. In case of the international rules (and probably it's played like this in other countries), you can actually go backwards.
To add, that's why in games like chess and checkers, you have to verify by which kind of rules you're playing (classical, international, other). In competitions, it seems you normally play by international rules, but you always have to check beforehand just in case.
I play chess, havent played checkers for some years and i´d like to play it again, i have some questions, in tournaments is always played in a 10x10 board? in that format taking backwards is legal but not in a standard 8x8 board?
The game you see here is International draughts, always played on the 10x10 board. The backwards capture is legal in this game. There are also tournaments of English draughts, Russian and other styles.
Sometimes I think americans forget there's a whole world out there beyond their borders. It would have taken you literally ten seconds to use Google to find out if different rules apply elsewhere in the world in the game of checkers.
Kkkkk Like.
what are the basic strategy for checkers? moving your pieces aggressive of being defensive? should you play the checkers at the edges first or what, i have no idea.
I was a chess fan when I was a kid, but then I haven't played any chess game for years and then I became so good at checkers that I started to play chess again. I mean, I understand and I like both games, but chess it's obviously harder than checkers. But that doesn't mean that in this game you don't use strategies. If you make random moves in checkers, you can easily lose the match.
Nah he wouldve played his black dood up and checkers you have to capture and in this international checkers variation you can capture backwards Good catch though, but wrong variation
So the differences with traditional checkers is?? - simple pieces get to jump backwards - 4 rows of pieces - kings jump long range Did I get that right? Or are there more ?
American checkers doesn't follow that rule. Brazilian and Russian has almost the same rule, so probably they adopted the rules in International checkers.
