@18:25 Small correction: Ding did actually play Kg8 first, then Nepo gave another check, then Ding plays King back to h7, then Nepo repeats the original check...and only then does Ding play Rook g6 to block it. So there was actually a single repeat of a position. I suspect he did this just to add some quick increment on his clock before giving it a real think. Takes some serious nerves to play on for the win there with QRBvQRB still on the board. OTOH he did have 2 passed pawns and a solid Bishop defending them both. His instinct was correct.

Well, I have followed each game live and was able to watch the first two and a half rapid play games this morning before, regrettably, having to break away for several hours. I returned to see what happened, knowing that GM Daniel King would not let me down by disclosing the result in his video title, and have just watched this game, effectively, 'live'. Thank you so much Daniel for all the excellent coverage over the last few weeks, and for preserving my opportunity to see this game more or less as I wanted to.

P.S., ty for making vids covering every single game, even all the tie-break games, even the "boring" draws. (There were very few boring draws in this WCC, but still.) And ty for putting them up all on the very same day. That alone makes this one of the best recap channels on youtube. Very excellent coverage and i will look here in the future for other games. If you can cover more Ding and Rapport things then plz do!

Congratulations Ding! Says a lot about his bravery that on the live commentary with Fabiano Caruana they spent a while explaining why Ding definitely wouldn't play the self pin! Felt for Nepo. Wonder if he will get another shot at this point. The youngsters are coming. And having had pretty limited interest in this beforehand it has been completely gripping, not least because of your fantastic analysis.

Incredible and well deserved. I'm happy Liren won. And what an expression on his face afterwards. A truly genuine champion. The nerves. The fortitude to play the moves he did in that last game. That's how you claim victory. The pawns moves, c4 and what was it e5 in that endgame earlier in the match? The two moves that were easy to overlook but had clear meaning behind them. Rg6 is just insane. Not simplifying. Wow. And on the flip side I have great sympathy for Ian. In the end, I feel his stubbornness betrayed him. Going back to the Spanish, refusing to try something new. Insisting on his preparation which Ding appears to have successfully sidestepped for most of the match. And then the coverage. What would this match be without world class commentary the likes of which we were treated to on this channel? Thank you GM King! For the first time in a long time, I was unable to watch ANY of the games live. A tragedy. Yet, I don't feel I missed a thing because of your incredible work. Bravo! A thrilling match to follow because of PowerPlay Chess! Perhaps my favorite WC match of all time and the only one I never watched. :)

I'd like to say that fortune favours the brave, but really, both players went "balls to the walls" in this game. Incredible how daring they were in this last game. As I'm a big fan of Ding, this makes me very happy, though I must say, seeing Nepo at the end was absolutely heart rending. Thank you so very much for the amazing coverage. Got through to the candidates in the backdoor via Karjakin's suspension and impromptu planned Chinese tournaments. Got to the World Championship match via Carlsen's abdication. Never ahead at any point... ...until the point which mattered most. The stars were aligned for Ding Liren. A very worthy world champion. One of the best three players in the world over the last 5 years and an incredible competitor. Thankyou for your coverage Daniel, flawless once again!! That's as far as my compliments will go though after your bees downed my team in the 93rd minute yesterday! 😩

Finally had a chance to watch the games today live. What a heck of a game this one was...the reaction from Caruana, Hess and Sachdev at Rg6 was priceless. What guts to play that with a minute on the clock. A fitting end to any match, and I'm thankful we didn't have to go to the chaos of a blitz tiebreaker. Great coverage, Daniel, you are the best.

You have made a great job with the analyses of the World Championship matches. For me the highlight of your series is the seperation of tiebreak. What I always like is that you show understanding for the human moves rather than saying that a player made a mistake, as the computer has a better suggestion. This exciting competition deserved your commentary- and vice versa.

I watched every second of it and plan to watch some of the videos again. Amazing coverage and analysis as always Daniel. Even in this day and age when there are thousands of chess channels with even super GM and GMs having channels, Mr King remains one of the best. I don't know if I'm biased and it's the English accent, but I find that Daniel can just explain complicated concepts and games in very simple way that makes it easy for beginners to understand but also is useful and engaging for intermediate players too. I can't speak for high level players since I am not one myself, but I assume they'd also enjoy such coverage from a "news" perspective since Daniel usually also goes into novelties and also gives the historical information. I think that's where Daniel shines compared to most of the other newer channels. Daniel has a wealth of experience and has been doing this for a very long time. He's covered everything basically and is like a chess encyclopedia. He can tell stories about little known things that others aren't able to do. So yeah. Thanks again Daniel. You are a legend in the commentary game and were doing this long before it became super profitable which just shows your enthusiasm and love for the game, even after all these years.. I hope King Ding and King King both have long reigns at the top in their respective fields of expertise. And yes, incase you were wondering, I am quite pleased with myself for just coming up with that awesome pun. No, I did not have it prepared long ago and was indeed m a novelty I just found OTB. Lol.

This was one of the craziest endgames I'd ever witnessed and what a brave way for Ding to win. When asked about the brave self-pinning (with only about a minute on his clock at that point of trying the suprise...Rg6 Ding mentioned something like he thought it was time to 'go for it' (go for the win) and I think Ding had glanced over at his two promising passed pawns one too many times just before playing the surprise...Rg6 instead of continuing into a threefold repetition. What a crazy game and it really shows how strong Nepo was playing for most of the game as the few engine moves which can be said to have been the stronger (or at least more engine accurate moves) all.look so WEIRD, totally NOT what a human would more likely naturallty play. I congratulate Ding Liren on an AMAZING final game and great match as he is our new World Chess Champion. Nepo, we all know is most likely still kicking himself for not finding the wins with the two games he had totally winning positions in during the Classical portion of the match. Both players did a great job throughout the match and put up a highly entertaining fight for the World Championship. I feel bad for Nepo as I know how bad he wanted the title and how close he came to becoming our new Workd Chess Champion. On the other hand, I remember studying Magnus, who many will agree has become the strongest Chess player in the world (and of course is now our 'former' World Chess Champion) ..but I remember when I first started realizing how strong Magnus Carlsen was, the question that came to my mind years ago was, 'Who can beat Magnus and who has the best record vs Magnus Carlsen? and back then the answer was Nepo as Nepo had the best record vs Magnus. How many chess players can can say they THAT strong? -Nepo can! Then, The question that comes to mind is, 'How many people can say they are strong enough to compete in TWO Chess World Championships? ..and then, How many chess players can say they've beaten World Chess Champions like Magnus Carlsen and now Ding Liren, along with many more Chess Titans multiple times?..and once again - Nepo can say he's THAT strong! That's not a World Chess Championship Title but as for Nepo, These things say a great deal about his level of play and what a mighty chess player he is! So, Congrats to Ding Liren for winning this well deserved title and also hats off to Nepo for making it a titantic battle over the chess board too! WoW! What a fantastic World Chess Championship! Great you showed Rapid Game 4, on it's own, and eventually won by Ding, the first time he led the entire match. Congrats on your commentary and congrats to Ding, becoming World Champion, but Nepo also had his chances!

Both players gave us a gift with this exciting match. It is hard to play boldly when you know you are not playing your best. Both players went for it, trying their hearts out in game after game despite discouraging mistakes. For anyone who knows that they really should give it the gusto despite things not having gone well, this match can be an inspiration to remember.

Thanks for the coverage of all the games, I've really enjoyed them. It's been a wild month with the WCC. Nice to see such spirited games, especially this last rapid game being such a nail biter. Both players are phenomenal. I really grew to appreciate Ding's sense for active play without hesitation over these matches. Maybe not computer approved, but moves that only a human with serious nerves would dare to play and it really paid off. Congrats to King Ding!

Here the psychological factor made a colossal difference. Players were very tired, and the whole championship was an emotional rollercoaster. This was the last round before 5+3. And then somehow Nepo, being ahead in time, relaxed a little bit, go watch the players footage and check it. Nepo clearly "deflated" as if in a thought of "well, let's repeat threefold here and go for the blitz games". Then came Rg6 and Nepo had to recover from the shock that it wasn't over and it would be crucial to find the precise moves under time pressure, against 2 passed pawns in a tired body and exhausted mind. Anxiety built up fast, messed the reasoning and things went downhill. Kudos to Ding Liren for having the courage and concentration to provoke this epic, unforgettable ending. He seized his opportunity, like a true champion!

This was an amazing match, I was happy with either player winning. Feel sorry for Ian, he was so close, but he took it like a champ. Congratz to Mr. King, such insightful videos, couldn't ask for more.

Hikaru pointed out that at 2:55 White should probably have taken with a pawn instead of a Knight. The idea is simple, you simply keep the light squared bishop in the game as a2 square is available.
