Short rundown of my Austrian campaign very hard difficulty resulting in numerous achievements including World Conqueror. Watch live at : / budgetmonk119
how do you lose the war of the roses? every time I've played England only one pretender rebel army rises up and I instantly crush it and that's pretty much it for the war of the roses
It usually kills the manpower I need to challenge France plus I can never get an heir to end the damn thing.. Do you have any tips on starting England? I can't most of the time beat France. Even when I do weaken France, I get a coalition or Castile with its Wedding kills me.
Don't worry it is all a learning process if you want to improve you will improve or you could spend your time and energy elsewhere, i find that watching streams while playing is one of the best ways to pick up all the tips from the community.
I did a WC once with Byzantine, but instead of spreading my dynasty I managed to PU Austro-Hungary, Russia, UK and Scandinavia by losing my dynasty 4 times :)
i find it easier to form prussia as the teu. just bc u don't need to conquer land from poland- u only need to have a good relation with austria and hungary as ur ally.
A good strategy when you are austria is to free a maximum of OPM nations in the countries you conquer (for instance, you put albania in the hre then release it as an independant nation) so you get A LOT of Imperial authority per month. you do that when you apssed the 5th reform, and then you simply wait till the 7th reform. I had muscovy into the hre, and even if he had 100% liberty desire, he couldnt declare independance on me due to the 5th reform, so he kept helping me in my wars. In the end, I was doing absolutly nothing in my wars, only feeding my 1M soldiers vassals. When the world was mine, I passed the 8th reform to unify my country :P
Exploits or not he began this after i posted my video above, i simply do not bother trying to help people understand on the internet. Because most often they are not looking for understanding ;)
Having completed games with a few major powers (and minor as well, Lubbeck--->>Westphalia--->>Germany) I didn't believe there was a way to get this achievement. It seems it requires some shrewd diplomacy as well as no small deal of luck with those PUs. Aggressive expansion on the back of an unmatched military doesn't seem to get it done. Well done Sir.
Dude i came back in this video just to thank you because holy shit this game is awesome, youtube recommendations showed me the light to an incredible game damn
Make them smal by annexing territory and than make them your vassel. After that you need to give him the land back. Alternativ you can make it by bringing a habsburg on the throne with Diplomacy. Hope it helps you after 2. years ;)
dear lord. im doing my ironman VH spain campaign and my goal is just to make it to 1821 on the great powers list, not die to northern europe neighbors or ottomans, and colonize the americas while also making spanish japan because it sounds funny. that's all i want and here is this guy doing a WC with crazy PU strats. :x
I have probably played around 100 hours of EU4. I started playing with bigger nations but after some time it got extremely boring. Once you eliminate all the big powers it really is no fun and i quit far before 1800s. For that reason i pick a nation that is extremely weak at the start, like Croatia, Ragusa, Moldavia (Ethiopia is fun as well since i run into Mamluks and Ottomans after i conquer the horn). or i even start from the new world. I find it fun to deal with challenges and overwhelming odds. Playing Austria is only fun imo when you are a rookie and are still learning the game.
Sandwich Maker Nah. Its a stalemate often then not. You get coalitions and thats quite boring again once you break through the coalitions. You wait for wars between the coalition powers and just pounce. Nah, i like having France waiting or the Ottomans, or some great power to challenge down the line. The most fun ive had is when i finish with a weak country having most of the Europe but im never able to take the whole with powerful enemies around me.
I agree. By far the most interesting part of eu4 is pre 1500, and it's fun up to like 1600. At that point you're the most powerful nation, and it's boring. I always start as some weak countries (I like playing Serbia).
Yeah the game is a completely different beast on very hard difficulty. There's a huge jump in the AI complexity from difficult to very difficult. I play this game on an old PC an ironically, that's what allowed me to see what was actually going on behind the scenes. When on very hard, there's allot more calculations being performed/variables being created in RAM because. I know this because when I speed the game up to max (when on very difficult), my YT playlist starts to stutter/slur. It's not connection lag, it's that the RAM is having trouble coping with running YT videos and the game simultaneously due to the sheer amount of variables that are being created and calculated upon in memory. It's not just a case of the AI getting bonuses as it was before. It's literally a more complex program on very difficult.
my best game was probably with norway , got the PLC (before they were united) and england to back my independence , started colonizing , a lot of wars with denmark and england (broke my aliance with them so i can get into ireland and also be the lord of N.America) , formed Scandinavia and then the shit just hit the fan when i got PU over Poland and Lithuania ...I got bored at about 1600 cuz it was preety easy
Thanks dude. Started out very avarage and around 1530 i new it was going to be a good game with Hungary Lith and Great Brittan all under a PU and my dynasty on Castlie ;) lucky me.
I haven't tried an Austria game in a long time, and even though its been a few patches since your video, there weren't really any changes in the scenario. The thing is, I get a good start and then attack the pope for his italian lands to prevent the shadow kingdom event. But then I always end up being excommunicated. Is there any chance to prevent that from happening? Or is it just a necessary thing that I have do endure?
I'll definitly watch it, in the meantime I did figure it out myself though! Tried picking up defender of the faith before attacking the pope. He couldn't excommunicate me. :D Really love your videos! Keep it up :)
Haha cool, this is a fun game if you like strategy, very challenging to learn, i recommend learning from watching streamers. You would be glad to hear that Austria is probably the most powerful nation in this game :P haha they are easily top 5
The game is extremely complicated, one of the most difficult (mostly luck based) aspects of the game is to acquire another kingdom by become ruler of both nations, after 50 years you can integrate these nations into your country at the cost of diplo. Look into PU or personal union if you are interested in learning. One of the best ways to learn in my honest opinion is to watch streamers play if you have the time. I myself stream this game and the link to my channel is in the description.
Hey man, great video. Two questions: 1. How come you were so focused on quickly integrating your PUs? 2. How come you took most of the world yourself, rather than using your HRE vassals as free coring bitches?
Honestly i PUed so many nations this game of such a large size that i was integrating them as a potential limitation. That is why i interaged them with diplo as my focus. Also i mostly just cored things comfortably with my admin, due to how much land i was integrating via diplo. In other words i ate it myself rather than wasting it on being far ahead in admin tech or development ect. By the way at one point i had about 85% of the world as my subject and this was why i formed the HRE, Because of lib disire.
Cool. I am doing a similar run myself at the moment, and wanted to know why you went the path you did. My current strategy is to use the HRE vassals as free cores, but I quickly realized it is a huge pain in the ass to grant them the provinces by the vassal window, as you have to be at peace, which slowed down wars because you had to peace everyone out before starting the next chunk. Because of this, I rather started giving them provinces directly from the peace deal, leaving out any reduced liberty desire, which in turn made their liberty desire go haywire. I am not worried about independence war, but it made my 150k french stack do nothing in wars. I did realize, however, that they still take care of their rebels, so I now constantly keep them on ~100% OE to make sure to utilize their rebel killing potential to its maximum. However, even with almost 800 hours played, I still didn't achieve a world conquest. It's 1730, and with most of Ottomans, north africa, brittish islands, India and China still intact, it looks dark this time as well. :P
From my experience it is best to destroy the centers ASAP the best way to do this is Force religious unity by any means necessary on a one Provence minor which will Force his capital and hence the center of religion to convert and be destroyed, this only works on opm's however it is not unlikely that at least a few of the 6 centers will be dealt with this way. The other way to handle centers is to try and take the province directly and convert it yourself. HRE has coring range anywhere in empire and with religious ideas you should be able to convert it once taken. Lastly truth be told Austria has such great Diplo rep that you can convince heretics to vote for reformations with the help of excess IA and relations improved, so you do not need to worry about this not passing the second to last reformation and breaking away from the empire, Therefore in theory you can pass reformations with nothing more then adding land to the empire, Emperors deaths worth 10 and my favorite of all simply releasing new catholic nations. Hope this helps thanks for watching.
@@BudgetMonk Maybe a late reply, but relevant to the topic. You said in the video you started with influence and not diplomatic. Doesn't that result in more stab hits and aggresive expansion when using no CB to destroy those reformation centers?
Is this even possible without PUs? With -20% province warscore cost idea, -50% unjustified demands and aggresive expansion bonuses and I can still barely take 15 provinces at a time from one 100% won war, but then I'm at 150% overextension and a shit ton of rebels spwn which are pretty easy to deal with but annoying af.
Congrats on that victory! Can't imagine doing that myself. Just for clarificatuion: you keep saying something like "I made nation x a PU". Are there any tricks to PU-ing or did you simply luck out in that regard?
I am going to make a video on this topic to help players get as many PU's as possible, with that being said i was lucky this game. With that being said this was my second atempt at WC on very hard having already put about 80 hours into a not so lucky game.
sure youtube put that video in my reccomendations more than 3 years fter it´s upload.... i´m sure it is still relevant in a game that changes as often as eu4......
Pretty much need to send a colonist to every single province. You can get a rare event to gain a colony next to one of your own with 200 settlers, however this colony will not have a colonist and therefore will grow at a reduced rate and dramatically increase the already expensive upkeep cost. one other thing to consider is a colonial nation with enough wealth will have 1 colonist from expansion ideas and will spread 1 province at a time. Hope this helps good luck.
I wonder what the limitations of very hard make in terms of Nation viability without hard-exploits (such as the ship selling trick). I wonder if it's possible as something like a Irish minor or a very small African Nation that has to waste a huge amount of time Westernising.
It is extremely hard and makes you almost entirely dependant on diplomacy. Playing as someone like Austria, you go from being the strongest on normal dif to being weaker then France or Ottos right off the bat.
BudgetMonk 119 That's one of my main thoughts too. You're so dependent on diplomacy it doesn't particularly matter who you start as, so long as you get find some kind of ally and don't get immediately eaten (like an Irish OPM would). Past that it seems just to be down to luck and getting lucky with PUs. Actually makes me wonder if it'd even be possible as a non-European force outside of perhaps someone like Ming who already owns enough to get around a chunk of the difficulty.
Some nations are better then others, you can play Muscovy the same way, crush novo crush hordes. The major difference is danmark will attack you. They can also be beaten.
Hey bro i really need your tutorial about dynasty, royal marriage, and personal union... Your PU in one game is more than i get over 500 hours, which mostly iberian wedding which almost always happen. I really need your tutorial bout that...
For sure the massive amount of dlcs with paradox games can certainly be considered on of the negative aspects of the games, try to pick them up in sales for cheap over time.
want a challange? try to take over as some smaller nation (Bohemia for example) and you are not allowed to ally with germany/austria (in that example) or your two closest large nations
Influence, Religious, Defensive, Exploration, which i never finished i took it for the 1 colony however was really lacking diplo, i took admin to reach adim reduction cost for coring. And then Offensive for siege speed. Lastly i took quality which i switched out at the end for quantity for no other reason then to gain achievements like a decent reserve.
admin efficiency from absolutism and later technology. With high admin efficiency you can take lots of land, get reduced coring cost and integrate subjects more quickly.
Without exploiting the game it is extremely hard to WC on very hard difficulty, Austria is one of the few nations that is almost guaranteed to obtain personal unions I.E Hungary and Bohemia, also they have 10% reduced diplo annexation cost which is not only great in general but ontop of the fact they gain PU's my intention was to Form the HRE as this one of the only ways to inherit land at literally zero monarch points cost. To Destroy both France and Poland as they are almost impossible to PU as Austria and then pray to get any other PU i could, i just so happens i PUed most of Europe. Hope this helps.
France can PU burgundy yes, you need a royal marriage with them and for their ruler to die while they also have your own dynasty on the throne. You may find that because Burgundy has his own PU's over the lowlands that a noble from one of these nations will become ruler instead. This means most likely you will need to claim the throne and defeat them in battle. Very hard to achieve but it can be done.
Same here dude, my defensive diplomacy was way strong and they were to chicken to declare. Down side is not enforcing religion with threw diplomacy but still good.
My mission statement wars to destroy the commonwealth... also there is an art to gaining the Burgundian inheritance. you fight wars on your own and bring your manpower to zero then turn army maintenance down, this prompts them to attack the empire, you rely on your allies to crush him. then sit on his occupations until it fires. I was lucky here because of my PU's however i could have done this without SOO much luck that i had. At a certain stage i was not even really trying anymore and just trying to have fun on the stream.
Thank you, i hope i can continue to make content you enjoy. I have been streaming a lot lately although my internet is not great, so neither is the quality of the stream. If you want to stop by and say hi the link is in the description.
Not at all offended and i do not mean to be offensive either, i understand where you are coming from however i am operating from where the game defines things.
Thanks man! stick around for more. Influence- religious- Defensive- Exploration- Administration- Quality- Expansion- Quantity. It is worth noting i just took Exploration for the very first idea colonist and did not complete the idea until much later in the game, i was very starved for Diplo throughout the game with the rate i was integrating nations. Also This order DOES NOT priorities military very much at all mostly because i was abusing weaker nations while having my vessel swarm fight any tough war for me. And lastly i took abandoned Offensive which was my last idea group, switching it for quantity only to receive A Decent Reserve Achievement. I hope this helps you thanks for watching.
