Ecuador was not a colony of Gran Colombia. Gran Colombia was a Federal State formed by nowadays Venezuela, Colombia (called Cundinamarca in that time) and Ecuador (called Quito in that time).

It was not a Colony, Ecuador was the South Department of the Gran Colombia, that is not being a colony. i f only we never would separated ourselves from this great Proyect, we, perhaps would be a very rich country, with all the resources of Venezuela, the enormous potential of Colombia, his people (Colombian resources are majestic too) and Beautiful and pacific Ecuador...But that is only a dream. THEY would never allow a thing like this to happen.
